May 1, 1976 Recaps

EAGLE AT MARSHALLTON, 1st

Rowland Office had 2 base hits as the Marshallton Mad Hatters (8-9) outscored
the Eagle Eagles (8-9) 5-1.
 
Brent Strom(2-2) gave Marshallton a solid outing.  He went 6 and 1/3 innings
surrendering 5 hits and 1 walk.  Marshallton had a total of 8 hits for the
game.  
 
Adrian Devine gained credit for his 1st save.  Don Stanhouse(0-1) was the
loser.  He allowed 2 runs and 4 hits in 1 and 2/3 innings.

Jon Matlack delivered 8 solid innings and Tony Perez had 2 base hits as the
Devault Dynamiters (10-6) defeated the Glenmoore Stableboys (8-7) by
a score of 2-0 at Bentley Stadium.
 
Glenmoore fell behind quickly as the Devault offense came through in the first
inning scoring a single run.  That early scoring held up.  Both teams' bats
went to sleep after the 4th inning with no runs scored after that point.
 
Matlack(3-1) went 8 innings allowing no runs for the win. Matlack got help
from Bruce Sutter who was credited with his 4th save.  Bill Bonham(1-2) took
the loss.  He pitched 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 6 hits and 3 walks.
 
 
CHESTER SPRINGS AT GUTHRIESVILLE

Steve Rogers(2-2) and Jerry Reuss(1-2) locked horns in a pitcher's duel with
Rogers and the Guthriesville Golddiggers (5-11) coming out on top of the Chester
Springs (8-9) club 4-0.
 
Guthriesville drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first
inning plating an isolated run on 3 base hits.  That scoring would be all
that was needed.  Chester Springs was out-hit by Guthriesville, 11 hits to 4.
 
Rogers was helped out by Ken Forsch who recorded his 1st save.
 
EAGLE AT MARSHALLTON, 2nd

Left fielder Ken Griffey had 3 base hits as the Marshallton Mad Hatters (9-9)
topped the Eagle Eagles (8-10) by a score of 5-3 at Four Dogs Field.
 
In the bottom of the 7th inning Marshallton scored 3 runs when they had 3 base
hits.  Griffey led off and started the attack as he laced a single.  Doug
Flynn stepped up to the plate and he ripped a single.  Ron Cey then rifled a
three-run blast.  After an out was recorded, Pete Lacock stepped in and he
drew a walk.  Marshallton rapped out 9 hits for the night.  
 
The win went to Dave Giusti(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Rawly
Eastwick was credited with his 4th save.  Mike Marshall(1-2) was the losing
pitcher in relief.  He allowed Marshallton 4 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings of
work.  
 
With this win, Marshallton has a 9-9 record.  They have been 6-4 lately.  With
the loss, Eagle has a record of 4-6 lately, 8-10 overall.
 
ELVERSON AT HONEY BROOK

Jerry Koosman pitched a 1 hit shutout at The Nest where the Honey Brook
Beekeepers (11-6) beat the Elverson Squires (8-10) by the score of 2-0.
 
Koosman(2-1) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the
Elverson batters.  He didn't allow much, just 1 hit and 2 walks in 9 innings
lowering his ERA to 2.48.  The pitchers took over after the 2nd inning as
neither team was able to score again.  
 
John Denny(1-3) suffered the loss. Chris McLaughlin was very impressed with
his pitcher, Koosman, 'He had unusually good pitch placement tonight.  It was
almost unfair - but a beautiful game to watch from where I sat'
 
KIMBERTON AT LIONVILLE

John Candelaria went 9 solid innings at Foster Field as the Kimberton
Firefighters (7-10) beat the Lionville (10-6) team 5-1.
 
Candelaria(3-0) was simply too much for the Lionville batters.  He allowed
only 4 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings dropping his ERA from 2.42 to 2.06.
Kimberton banged out 11 hits on the afternoon.  
 
Craig Swan(0-2) was given the loss.  'Candelaria gave us exactly what we
needed today.' Rich Pawlak said. 'When he threw the fastball he threw it for
strikes.  They were really fooled by his change.  Most of the time he had
them chasing it.'
