April 28, 1976 Recaps



DEVAULT AT ELVERSON

At French Creek Park, the Elverson faithful were treated to an intriguing
pitcher's duel.  Woodie Fryman(2-0) of the Devault Dynamiters (8-6) finally bested
Doug Rau(1-3), his Elverson Squires (7-8) counterpart, by the score of 1-0.
 
The game's lone run was scored in the 3rd inning.  That was all Fryman needed.
Both teams totaled 3 hits on the afternoon.  
 
Butch Metzger recorded the save, his 1st.  Rau was the loser.  He was stingy
with the baserunners, allowing just 3 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings.
 
 
KIMBERTON AT MARSHALLTON

In a lop-sided win the Marshallton Mad Hatters (7-8) registered 4 runs in the 7th
inning and ripped the Kimberton Firefighters (6-9) by a 8-2 count.
 
Steve Yeager made sure the Marshallton fans enjoyed themselves.  He tripled
scoring two baserunners in the 2nd inning and brought the hometown folks to
their feet with a Grand Slammer in the 7th inning.  Marshallton ended up with
10 hits for the game while Kimberton had 5.  
 
The win went to J.R. Richard(2-2) who allowed 2 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings.
Eric Rasmussen(0-2) was given the loss.  He gave up 3 runs and 4 hits in 5
and 2/3 innings.  
 
 
CHESTER SPRINGS AT HONEY BROOK

Tom Seaver racked up an impressive total of 10 strikeouts as the Chester
Springs (7-8) team topped the Honey Brook Beekeepers (9-5) by a score of 4-2 at The
Nest.
 
Seaver(1-0) contributed a very nicely pitched game.  He surrendered only 5
hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.  Chester Springs had 12 hits overall, while
Honey Brook had 6.  
 
Seaver got relief help from Charlie Hough who gained credit for his 3rd save.
Ray Burris(1-2) took the loss.  Seaver was pleased with his performance.  He
noted, 'I had good command of all my pitches.  Just as important, my location
was right on.'
 
GUTHRIESVILLE AT GLENMOORE

John Montefusco went 8 strong innings as the Glenmoore Stableboys (7-5) bested the
Guthriesville Golddiggers (4-9) 4-0 at Bentley Stadium.
 
Guthriesville fell behind quickly as the Glenmoore offense came through in the
first inning plating an isolated run on 2 base hits.  After an out was
recorded, Larry Herndon doubled.  One out later, Willie Montanez came to bat
and ripped a base-knock.  Mike Anderson followed, but he was set down on
strikes.  That early run support was all that Montefusco(1-2) required.
Glenmoore had 13 hits for the game and Guthriesville had 3.  
 
The loss was charged to Jim Kaat(1-1).  He allowed 4 runs and 12 hits in 5 and
1/3 innings.
 
EAGLE AT LIONVILLE

Randy Jones was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game as the Lionville (9-4) club defeated the Eagle Eagles (6-8) 3-1 at
Foster Field.
 
Lionville jumped on top of Eagle in the 5th inning plating one baserunner
utilizing 2 base hits.  Lionville and Eagle each finished the night with 8
hits.  
 
The victory was credited to Jones(4-0) who went the distance, allowing 1 run.
The losing pitcher was Don Sutton(2-1).  He surrendered 8 hits and 4 walks in
8 innings.
