April 24, 1976 Recaps


GLENMOORE AT EAGLE

1,629 fans were treated to a fine game at Hickory Park as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end.  The Glenmoore Stableboys (4-5) won by the
slimmest of margins, 3-2, over the Eagle Eagles (5-6).
 
Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings.  Glenmoore won the
hard fought contest in the 10th inning.  After an out was recorded, Dave
Concepcion tripled, and an error was also committed.  After another out, Bake
McBride came to bat and lashed a single.  Glenmoore managed 8 hits in their
victory.  
 
The win was credited to Gary Lavelle(1-0) who went 2 and 2/3 innings allowing
no runs. Ramon Hernandez(0-1) was hit with the loss in relief.  He allowed 1
run and 3 hits in 3 and 2/3 innings.  
 
 
KIMBERTON AT ELVERSON

First baseman Steve Garvey had 2 base hits as the Elverson Squires (5-6) beat the
Kimberton Firefighters (5-6) by a score of 7-2.
 
Jim Barr(1-2) pitched well for Elverson in their victory.  He was reached for
3 hits and 5 walks in 8 innings dropping his ERA from 6.14 to 4.76.  Overall
Elverson out-hit Kimberton 11 to 5.  
 
Carl Morton(1-1) was charged with the loss.  He was knocked around pretty
good, giving up 7 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings.
 
CHESTER SPRINGS AT MARSHALLTON

The Chester Springs (4-7) ballclub got by the Marshallton Mad Hatters (4-7) at Four
Dogs Field.  The final score was 6-4.
 
Marshallton found themselves trailing quickly as the Chester Springs bats came
through in the first inning scoring 2 runs using 3 hits.  Jose Cardenal led
off and started the attack as he laced a one-base hit.  Two outs later Gary
Thomasson stepped up to the plate and he doubled.  Mike Jorgensen then hit a
single.  Marshallton threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
 
The victory went to Phil Niekro(2-1) who went 7 and 2/3 innings, allowing 3
runs. Gary Nolan(0-2) was the losing pitcher.  He gave up 4 runs and 9 hits
in 5 and 2/3 innings.  
 
'Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals' said John Young after the game.
'We lost this game tonight because we didn't follow the instructions every
Little Leaguer hears every day.'
 
DEVAULT AT HONEY BROOK

Third baseman Doug Rader had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Honey Brook
Beekeepers (8-2) bested the Devault Dynamiters (6-4) 7-1 at The Nest.
 
Ray Burris(1-1) gave a fine effort for Honey Brook.  He allowed 7 hits and no
walks in 5 and 2/3 innings improving his ERA from 4.61 to 3.72.  Honey Brook
had a total of 11 hits for the game.  
 
Burris got help from Santo Alcala who earned his 1st save.  Lynn
McGlothen(1-2) was given the loss.  He gave up 6 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings of
work.  
 
 
GUTHRIESVILLE AT LIONVILLE

At Foster Field the Lionville (8-2) club outscored the Guthriesville 
Golddiggers (3-7), 9-6.
 
Greg Luzinski had a big day at the plate.  He laced a single knocking in a run
in the 1st inning, doubled clearing all three ducks off the pond in the 2nd
inning and laced a base-hit which brought home a run in the 4th inning.
Lionville and Guthriesville each finished the afternoon with 13 hits.
 
Randy Jones(3-0) went 7 innings allowing 5 runs for the win. Jones got help
from Joe Sambito who was credited with his 2nd save.  The loss was charged to
Larry Dierker(0-2).
