Jim Lonborg(4-4) and Don Stanhouse(1-3) treated the Eagle fans to a fine
pitching duel at Hickory Park.  The Kimberton Firefighters eventually emerged
as victors over the struggling Eagle Eagles by the score of 4-0.
 
Kimberton took the lead for good in the top of the 3rd inning scoring one
runner.  Manny Trillo drew a walk.  Trillo was safe on a stolen base.  Two
outs later Jose Cruz came up and he banged out a single.  That early scoring
held up.  Kimberton had a total of 10 hits for the game.  
 
Skip Lockwood recorded the save, his 10th.
 
KIMBERTON AT EAGLE, 2nd

Bill Madlock blasted 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the ice-cold Eagle Eagles
were badly beaten by the Kimberton Firefighters, 13-3.
 
Madlock was in a groove all day.  The Eagle fans hated to see him approaching
the batter's box.  He ripped a solo home run in the 1st inning, stroked a
base-hit which brought home a run in the 3rd inning, lined a single in the
8th inning and bombed a two-run dinger in the 9th inning.  Eagle was out-hit
by Kimberton, 14 hits to 9.  
 
The victory was credited to Don Carrithers(2-2) who went 7 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 3 runs. Pat Zachry(4-3) was hit with the loss.  He got hammered,
allowing 6 hits and 2 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.  
 
Kimberton continued their winnings ways improving their record to 25-23.  They
are 8-2 in their last ten games.  Bob Phillips was pretty down after the
loss.  'We've really been sputtering along lately, something like 2-8 in the
last week or two.  That won't get it done.'

Tim McCarver had 2 base hits at Historic Village Park as the sizzling Devault
Dynamiters beat the Chester Springs team 4-0.
 
Devault took the lead for keeps in the 2nd inning when they scored 2 runs on 4
hits.  That early run support was enough for Lynn McGlothen(5-4) and Devault.
Both teams ended up with 8 hits on the afternoon.  
 
McGlothen got help from Bruce Sutter who earned his 10th save.  Phil
Niekro(4-4) was the losing pitcher.  In another of a string of victories,
Devault knocked extended their winning streak to 7 games.
 
GUTHRIESVILLE AT ELVERSON

Steve Garvey went deep and had 3 RBI as the Elverson Squires defeated the
slumping Guthriesville Golddiggers 8-2 at French Creek Park.
 
Doug Rau(5-4) pitched well for Elverson in their victory.  He went 7 and 1/3
innings allowing 7 hits and 1 walk.  Elverson had 13 hits for the afternoon
while Guthriesville had 8.  
 
Larry Dierker(1-8) absorbed the loss.  He was knocked around by Elverson,
allowing 13 hits and 2 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.
 
GLENMOORE AT MARSHALLTON

In a game for the baseball purist, Steve Renko(3-3) and Bill Bonham(3-4)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, Marshallton Mad Hatters finally emerged
victorious over Glenmoore Stableboys, 3-0.
 
Renko looked very much in control throughout the night.  He allowed just 7
hits and 1 walk in 8 and 1/3 innings lowering his ERA from 5.40 to 4.58.
Marshallton had only 5 hits for the game.  
 
Rawly Eastwick gained credit for his 8th save.
 
LIONVILLE AT HONEY BROOK, 1st

At The Nest the Lionville club easily handled the Honey Brook Beekeepers by
the score of 5-1.
 
Craig Swan(3-2) earned his pay with a solid performance for Lionville.  He
allowed 5 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.  Swan struckout 7 Honey
Brook batters.  After the 4th inning, neither team was able to score.  
 
Dave Freisleben(2-4) was given the loss.  He pitched 9 innings allowing 8 hits
and 3 walks.
 
LIONVILLE AT HONEY BROOK, 2nd

Leon Roberts hit a grand slam at The Nest as the Lionville ballclub beat the
Honey Brook Beekeepers by the count of 9-1.
 
In the top of the 3rd inning Lionville went on top for good plating one
baserunner on 3 hits.  Lionville out-hit Honey Brook for the game, 14 hits to
4.  
 
Ron Reed(6-2) was the winner allowing no runs in 5 and 2/3 innings. The losing
pitcher was Santo Alcala(1-2).  He was hit hard and gave up 14 hits and 5
walks in 9 innings.
