Richie Zisk jacked one out of the ballyard and had 3 RBI and Tommy John
pitched a complete game as the Devault Dynamiters outscored the Eagle Eagles
12-5.
 
Devault took the lead for good in the top of the 3rd inning when they scored 5
runs on 6 hits.  The key at-bat was by Zisk who deflated the spirits of the
home town crowd when he lofted a three-run 'big-fly'.  Devault banged out 17
hits on the afternoon.  
 
John(5-3) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 5 runs. Dick
Ruthven(3-5) was the loser.  He gave up 5 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings of work.

The Eagle Eagles nipped the Devault Dynamiters in 12 innings 5-4 at Hickory
Park in a hard fought contest.
 
Both teams had scored 3 runs after nine full innings.  Eagle was victorious in
the 12th inning.  Bruce Boisclair got things going when he doubled.  George
Foster came to the plate and banged out a single.  Foster then stole second
base.  Dick Allen came up and he hit a sacrifice fly.  One out later, Bill
Plummer stepped up to the plate and he reached on an error.  Eagle had 12
hits for the afternoon.  
 
Gene Pentz(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1/3 of an inning. Butch
Metzger(2-2) was tagged with the loss in relief.  He pitched 2/3 of an inning
and surrendered 2 hits and no walks.
 
HONEY BROOK AT GLENMOORE, 1st

The Glenmoore Stableboys and the Honey Brook Beekeepers locked up in an
exciting one-run game at Bentley Stadium.  The final score was the Glenmoore
Stableboys 4, the Honey Brook Beekeepers 3.
 
Honey Brook was unable to recover after Glenmoore went ahead in the bottom of
the 2nd inning plating an isolated run.  Johnny Grubb cracked a solo homerun.
Overall Glenmoore out-hit Honey Brook 10 to 7.  
 
Bill Bonham(4-4) went 5 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. Gene Garber
was credited with his 9th save.  Ray Burris(3-7) suffered the loss.  
 
'He gutted it out' Barry Bentley said of Bonham.  'I was very impressed by his
tenacity.'

In a two run game the Glenmoore Stableboys got by the Honey Brook Beekeepers
by the score of 5-3.
 
Don Gullett(2-3) pitched well for Glenmoore in their victory.  He allowed 4
hits and 2 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.  Gene Garber relieved and was
untouched by Honey Brook as he recorded the save, his 10th.  
 
Dave Freisleben(2-5) was the losing pitcher.  He got hit hard, allowing 11
hits and 3 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.
 
KIMBERTON AT CHESTER SPRINGS, 1st

Dave Winfield had 3 base hits at Historic Village Pk. where the Chester
Springs team beat the Kimberton Firefighters by the score of 6-5.
 
Chester Springs erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 8th
inning with 3 runs on 4 hits.  Bob Boone kicked off the action when he lined
a single.  Rennie Stennett came next and he reached on an error.  Hector Cruz
then smacked a single.  After an out was recorded, Jose Cardenal stepped up
to the plate and he delivered a single.  Cardenal took second on the throw.
Larry Bowa came up to bat and stroked a one-base hit.  Bowa took second on
the throw.  Rick Monday added to the outburst and was walked intentionally.
A wild affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.  
 
The victory went to Charlie Hough(4-4) who went 2 innings, allowing 1 run.
Steve Stone(2-3) took the loss in relief.  He was unable to retire a batter
giving up 1 hit and no walks.
 
KIMBERTON AT CHESTER SPRINGS, 2nd

Third baseman Bill Madlock touched them all and had 2 RBI at Historic Village
Park where the Kimberton Firefighters beat the Chester Springs ballclub 7-2
 
John Candelaria(9-0) delivered a fine performance for Kimberton.  He was
reached for 6 hits and 1 walk in 7 and 1/3 innings.  Kimberton out-hit
Chester Springs for the game, 13 hits to 7.  
 
Candelaria got help from Wayne Twitchell who earned his 1st save.  Joe
Niekro(4-1) was given the loss.  He was the victim of a defensive lapse and
did not allow an earned run in the game.  
 
 
MARSHALLTON AT GUTHRIESVILLE, 1st

Third baseman Ron Cey had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Marshallton Mad Hatters
defeated the Guthriesville Golddiggers in 10 innings by the score of 3-1
at Hopewell Field.
 
The score was tied at 1 after nine.  Marshallton came out the victor in the
10th inning.  Tito Fuentes led off the inning for Marshallton when he laced a
base-hit.  Roger Metzger stepped up next and he reached on an error.  After
an out was recorded, Bill Buckner stepped up to the plate and he was walked
intentionally to load the bases.  Cey stepped in and he slapped a single.
Steve Yeager was a strikeout victim, unable to help out.  Marshallton managed
8 hits in their victory.  
 
Brent Strom(6-3) went 9 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Rawly Eastwick
earned the save, his 11th.  The losing pitcher was Andy Messersmith(2-6).  
 
 
MARSHALLTON AT GUTHRIESVILLE, 2nd

First baseman Pete Lacock left the yard and had 3 RBI at Hopewell Field as the
Marshallton Mad Hatters beat the Guthriesville Golddiggers 5-4.
 
Adrian Devine(2-0) was dominant in relief.  He allowed just 2 hits and no
walks in 3 and 1/3 innings.  Guthriesville tried unsuccessfully to come back
in the 9th.  
 
Rawly Eastwick gained credit for his 12th save.  Alan Foster(0-1) took the
loss in relief.  He surrendered 2 runs and 1 hit in 1 inning.  
 
'We won because we did the little things right.' John Young said after the
game.  'This is why we practice things over and over and over, so when we get
in close games we don't make mistakes.'
 
ELVERSON AT LIONVILLE

Randy Jones had an impressive outing as the very strong Lionville team
defeated the Elverson Squires by a score of 4-1 at Foster Field.
 
Elverson lost it in the 5th inning when Lionville did all their damage as they
scored 4 runs on 3 base hits.  The critical plate appearance was by Ted
Simmons who thrilled the crowd when he doubled clearing the bases.  Both
teams totaled 4 hits on the afternoon.  
 
Jones(10-1) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. Bob Forsch(3-3) was
tagged with the loss.  He surrendered 4 hits and 7 walks in 8 innings.  
 
Jon Brams was very impressed with his pitcher, Jones, 'He had unusually good
pitch placement this afternoon.  It was almost unfair - but a beautiful game
to watch from where I sat'
