Joe Ferguson lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 2 RBI as the Elverson
Squires defeated the struggling Guthriesville Golddiggers by the score of
6-2 at French Creek Park.
 
Elverson won the game with a rally in the 8th inning as they scored 4 runs on
5 base hits.  The critical plate appearance was by Ferguson who made the
home-town crowd a happy bunch when he cleared the fences for a two-run home
run.  For the game Elverson out-hit Guthriesville 10 to 6.  
 
Dave Heaverlo(1-1) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the win. Larry
Christenson(1-4) was the loser.  He gave up 7 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings.

Tom Hutton had 3 base hits as the Kimberton Firefighters bested the slumping
Eagle Eagles 4-0 at Hickory Park.
 
Kimberton went ahead for good in the top of the 2nd inning plating an isolated
run.  Bob Watson drew a walk.  Watson was safe at second on a stolen base.
Don Sutton then uncorked a pitch that was ruled a passed ball.  After an out
was recorded, Hutton came up and he hit a single.  That early scoring was all
that John Candelaria(8-0) needed.  Kimberton finished with 8 hits while Eagle
ended up with 4.  
 
Skip Lockwood gained credit for his 11th save. Sutton(5-2) took the loss.  He
pitched 8 innings and surrendered 8 hits and 2 walks.
 
Kimberton remained hot, improving their record to 26-23.  They now have a
record of 8-2 in recent days.  Bob Phillips was pretty down after the loss.
'We've really been sputtering along lately, something like 1-9 in the last
week or two.  That won't get it done.'
 
GLENMOORE AT MARSHALLTON

Willie Crawford hit a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Glenmoore Stableboys
defeated the Marshallton Mad Hatters 5-4 at Four Dogs Field.
 
Marshallton was unable to claim the lead after Glenmoore went ahead in the top
of the 3rd inning scoring a single run on 3 hits.  After two were out Willie
Montanez slapped a single.  Crawford next to the plate and he ripped a
base-knock.  Johnny Bench then singled.  Marshallton had a chance to come
back in the 9th but they came up short.  
 
The victory went to John Montefusco(6-3) who went 7 and 2/3 innings, allowing
4 runs. Paul Reuschel earned his 1st save.  Rob Dressler(1-2) ended up with
the loss.  
 
'I had a little blister on my index finger before the game, but I thought it
was nothing.' Montefusco said.  'I was lucky I got a win because I couldn't
put the ball where I wanted it.'

Tommy John blanked Chester Springs allowing just 4 hits as the streaking
Devault Dynamiters outscored the Chester Springs club in 10 innings 2-0.
 
Neither pitching staff had allowed a run after the regulation nine innings.
Devault came out the victor in the 10th inning.  After an out was recorded,
Garry Maddox began the rally when he lined a single.  After another out, Dave
Kingman stepped in and he bombed a two-run dinger.  Bill Robinson struck out,
unable to help the rally.  Devault took care of Chester Springs with no
trouble in the bottom of the 10th.  
 
John(4-3) was credited with the shutout. Dale Murray(0-2) was given the loss
in relief.  His ERA increased from 3.74 to 4.07 as he allowed 2 runs in 2 and
2/3 innings.  
 
Jim Ghoulach was obviously impressed with the pitching of John, 'That guy made
us look a little silly out there tonight.  We just couldn't get to him at all
- everything was working for him.  I just hope that he got that kinda
performance out of his system.'
