Fred Norman had a strong outing at Kimberton Fairground as the Kimberton
Firefighters beat the Eagle Eagles 3-1.
 
Kimberton wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning scoring one
runner.  Eagle had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.  
 
The win went to Norman(9-6) who allowed 1 run in 8 innings. Skip Lockwood
recorded the save, his 15th.  Don Sutton(9-8) took the loss.  He allowed 5
hits and 1 walk in 6 and 2/3 innings.  
 
'Anytime you lose it hurts,' said Bob Phillips 'but it's losing the close ones
that really hurt.'

Bruce Sutter closed the door on Chester Springs at Historic Village Park where
the Devault Dynamiters beat the Chester Springs team 3-2.
 
Devault jumped on top to stay in the top of the 6th inning scoring a single
run.  Although they lost, Chester Springs did out-hit Devault 11-3.  
 
Jon Matlack(11-5) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 innings and allowing
2 runs. Sutter gained credit for his 25th save.  Tom Seaver(11-6) was hit
with the loss.  He allowed just 3 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings.

Gary Thomasson cracked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Jim Rooker was able to
finish what he started and was credited with a complete game as the Chester
Springs club pulled out a win over the Devault Dynamiters by a score of 6-5
at Historic Village Park.
 
The game was decided in the bottom of the 9th inning.  Terry Puhl lined a
one-base hit.  Thomasson stepped up next and he grounded into a double play.
Dave Winfield then ripped a solo home run giving Chester Springs the win much
to the delight of the home town crowd.  Chester Springs banged out 12 hits on
the afternoon.  
 
Rooker(9-6) lasted until the end allowing 5 runs for the win. The losing
pitcher was Butch Metzger(5-3) in relief.

In a close game the Glenmoore Stableboys got by the ice-cold Elverson Squires
by the score of 8-6.
 
Johnny Bench had a big day at the plate.  He bombed a two-run dinger in the
1st inning, delivered a single in the 6th inning and doubled plating a run in
the 7th inning.  This was a game of many highs and lows for the home town
fans, as the lead kept changing - 5 times in all.  
 
Gene Garber(6-3) got the win allowing 1 run in 1 and 2/3 innings. Mike
Garman(6-8) was the loser in relief.  He allowed 2 runs and 2 hits in 1
inning.  
 
HONEY BROOK AT GUTHRIESVILLE

Designated hitter Pat Rockett hit a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Guthriesville
Golddiggers topped the Honey Brook Beekeepers 8-3 at Hopewell Field.
 
Guthriesville took the lead for good in the bottom of the 6th inning as they
scored 2 runs on 2 base hits.  The key offensive moment was provided by
Rockett who electrified Hopewell Field when he doubled bringing in two
baserunners.  Guthriesville finished with 11 hits while Honey Brook ended up
with 7.  
 
The win was credited to Larry Dierker(1-0) who went 1/3 of an inning allowing
1 run. Grant Jackson was credited with his 5th save.  Mark Lemongello(7-9)
was charged with the loss.  
 
MARSHALLTON AT LIONVILLE, 1st

At Foster Field the Marshallton Mad Hatters were battered 6-1 by the
Lionville team.
 
Lionville jumped on top of Marshallton in the 2nd inning plating an isolated
run utilizing 2 base hits.  Lionville had 9 hits for the afternoon while
Marshallton had 4.  
 
The victory went to Fred Holdsworth(3-3) who went 6 and 2/3 innings, allowing
no runs. Bob Shirley(8-7) ended up with the loss.  He was unable to control
the Lionville offense and allowed 9 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.
 
John Young was unhappy with his club's recent performance.  'We can't keep losing 
games' he said. 'It gets to be embarrassing after a while.'

Don Collins went 5 strong innings as the Lionville team defeated the
Marshallton Mad Hatters in 11 innings by a score of 8-7 at Foster Field.
 
Both teams were tied at 6 runs apiece after nine innings.  Lionville won it in
the 11th inning.  Gene Clines stroked a one-base hit.  Ted Simmons was next
and he slapped a single.  Chris Speier then drew a walk to load the bases.
Joe Morgan stepped in and he delivered a base-hit giving Lionville the win
and sending the home town fans into a frenzy.  The score went back-and-forth
with the lead changing 5 times.  
 
The winning pitcher was Ron Reed(4-5) who allowed no runs in 2 innings. Odell
Jones(5-2) was charged with the loss in relief.
