In a two-run game the Kimberton Firefighters got by the Guthriesville
Golddiggers by the score of 5-3.
 
Kimberton had 2 runs cross the plate in the 5th inning when they came up with
3 base hits.  They ended up being the winning runs.  Kimberton ended up with
12 hits for the game while Guthriesville had 8.  
 
Wayne Twitchell(5-5) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 and 1/3 innings
and allowing 3 runs. Skip Lockwood earned his 16th save.  The losing pitcher
was Larry Christenson(6-10).  
 
GUTHRIESVILLE AT KIMBERTON, 2nd

Andy Messersmith allowed Gary Scott to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete
game as the Guthriesville Golddiggers defeated the Kimberton Firefighters by
a score of 9-3 at Kimberton Fairground.
 
Messersmith(1-1) gave Guthriesville a solid outing.  He went 9 innings
allowing 7 hits and 3 walks improving his ERA from 4.03 to 3.73.
Guthriesville had a total of 12 hits for the game.  
 
Dan Larson(2-6) was tagged with the loss in relief.  He surrendered 1 hit and
no walks without retiring a batter.

Bob Owchinko tossed a complete game and Willie Montanez had 2 base hits and 2
RBI as the Glenmoore Stableboys topped the Devault Dynamiters by a score of 9-4 
at Great Valley Stadium.
 
In the 4th inning Glenmoore scored 3 runs with the help of 4 hits.  The key
offensive moment was provided by Montanez who quieted the crowd when he
doubled bringing in two baserunners.  Glenmoore had 15 hits for the
afternoon.  
 
Owchinko(6-8) was the winner allowing 4 runs for the game. Rick Sawyer(4-6)
was charged with the loss.  Glenmoore knocked him around a bit, as he gave up
6 runs in 3 innings.

At Hickory Park the Eagle Eagles were battered 8-2 by the Elverson Squires.
 
Elverson promptly took the lead in their half of the first plating one
baserunner on 2 base hits.  Elverson kept the pressure on throughout the
contest as they scored in 6 different innings.  
 
Doug Rau(7-10) allowed 2 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the victory.
Rau was helped out by Dave Tomlin who recorded his 4th save.  Don Sutton(9-9)
was the loser.  
 
HONEY BROOK AT MARSHALLTON

Mike Ivie hit one over the fence and had 2 RBI and Rollie Fingers shut Honey
Brook down as the Marshallton Mad Hatters defeated the Honey Brook Beekeepers
8-6 at Four Dogs Field.
 
Charlie Williams(2-5) struggled but was good enough to win with the help of
some fine defensive plays.  He gave up 12 hits and 1 walk in 7 and 2/3
innings and served up 2 'big flies'.  It was roller coaster of a game as the
lead change hands 6 times.  
 
Williams got help from Fingers who was credited with his 19th save.  Dan
Spillner(0-4) was given the loss in relief.  He was a hard-luck loser as he
did not allow an earned run in his 1 and 1/3 innings of work.  
 
LIONVILLE AT CHESTER SPRINGS

Phil Niekro dominated striking out 10 Lionville batters and Dave Winfield went
yard and had 3 RBI as the Chester Springs team defeated the Lionville club by
the score of 8-2 at Historic Village Park.
 
Niekro(15-6) had a strong outing.  He surrendered only 6 hits and 2 walks in 9
innings.  Chester Springs rapped out 11 hits for the afternoon.  
 
Craig Swan(4-9) absorbed the loss.  He surrended 3 homeruns in his 4 and 1/3
innings.  Niekro was jubilant in the hometown clubhouse, 'It was a lot of fun
out there.  The fans gave me a lot of support as did my teammates.  We got
the victory and I'll sure take 10 strikeouts anytime!'
