Johnny Oates had 2 base hits and 4 RBI as the Guthriesville Golddiggers
defeated the Kimberton Firefighters 12-3 at Kimberton Field.
 
Guthriesville started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half
of the first scoring 3 runs on 2 base hits.  After two were out Keith
Hernandez jump-started the rally as he reached on an error.  Champ Summers
stepped into the batter's box and he drew a walk.  Cesar Cedeno then hit a
single.  Cedeno took second on a stolen base.  Enos Cabell came up to bat and
ripped a one-base hit.  Guthriesville dominated offensively as they scored in
6 different innings.  
 
Stan Bahnsen(5-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 and 2/3 innings and
allowing 3 runs. Larry Demery(1-6) was given the loss.  He allowed 8 hits and
2 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.

Bill Russell had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Great Valley Stadium where the
Devault Dynamiters beat the Glenmoore Stableboys 6-4.
 
Devault erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 8th inning
with 2 runs utilizing 3 base hits.  Del Unser started the inning off right
when he laced a single.  Jeff Burroughs came next and he lined a one-base
hit.  Two outs later Garry Maddox stepped up to the plate and he was walked
intentionally to load the bases.  Russell followed next and he singled.
Glenmoore threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.  
 
Butch Metzger(6-3) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory.
Bruce Sutter got the save, his 26th.  Rick Rhoden(7-9) took the loss.  He was
touched for 10 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.  
 
Barry Bentley was subdued after the ballgame, 'That one really hurts.  If our
guys had simply played more fundamentally sound, we could have won that one.
That is what really ticks me off!'

Don Stanhouse carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning at Hickory Park where
the Eagle Eagles beat the Elverson Squires by the score of 4-3.
 
Dick Ruthven(5-6) was given credit for the win.  He surrendered 2 hits and 2
walks in 2 and 1/3 innings.  The right-handed Stanhouse lost his chance for a
no-hitter when Wayne Garrett singled with nobody out in the 6th inning.
Elverson was out-hit by Eagle, 10 hits to 4.  
 
Ruthven got help from Bill Atkinson who earned his 18th save.  Al
Hrabosky(5-5) was tagged with the loss in relief.  He pitched 1 and 1/3
innings giving up 3 hits and no walks.
 
John Carney was pretty down after the loss.  'We've really been sputtering along 
lately, something like 2-8 in the last week or two.  That won't get it done.'
 
HONEY BROOK AT MARSHALLTON

The Marshallton Mad Hatters edged the Honey Brook Beekeepers at Four Dogs
Field by the score of 4-3.
 
The deciding run was scored by Marshallton in the bottom of the 8th.  After
two were out Mike Ivie banged out a single.  Vic Correll was next and he
stroked a single.  Bill Buckner then laced a base-knock.  Buckner was safe at
second on a stolen base.  Marshallton managed only 6 hits on the night.
 
Buddy Schultz(4-3) allowed no runs in 2 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Rollie Fingers recorded his 18th save.  Jerry Koosman(10-8) suffered
the loss.  
 
LIONVILLE AT CHESTER SPRINGS

Dave Winfield had 2 base hits at Historic Village Park as the dominant Chester
Springs team won a thriller over the Lionville ballclub in, 7-6.
 
Chester Springs won the game with a run in the 9th inning.  Larry Bowa
delivered a single.  Bowa got a great jump and stole second easily.  After an
out was recorded, Joe Sambito wound up and let one slip out of his
hand for a wild pitch.  After another out, Winfield came to the plate and
lined a base-hit giving Chester Springs the win much to the delight of the
home town crowd.  Chester Springs had 14 hits overall, while Lionville had 8.
 
The victory went to Doug Capilla(1-1) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs.
Sambito(3-4) absorbed the loss in relief.  He allowed 1 run and 2 hits in 2/3
of an inning.
