In a dramatic ending, the Honey Brook Beekeepers staged a comeback win over
the Elverson Squires 4-3.
 
Honey Brook scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning scoring
2 runs on 4 base hits.  Dave Cash kicked off the action when he lashed a
single.  Tom Paciorek got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim.
Junior Moore then smacked a single.  Moore took second on the throw.  John
Vukovich was up next and he hit a single.  Cesar Geronimo stepped into the
box and drew a walk.  Jay Johnstone contributed to the rally and delivered a
base-hit.  Honey Brook managed 10 hits in their victory.  
 
John D'Acquisto(2-8) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 2 and 2/3
innings. The losing pitcher was Al Hrabosky(7-5) in relief.  He surrendered 2
runs and 3 hits in 2/3 of an inning.  
 
Chris McLaughlin was ebullient after the game, 'It's great to win a hard
fought game like that.  Our guys just weren't going to be denied.  And did
you see the fans - they were going wild! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win this
afternoon!'
 
KIMBERTON AT GLENMOORE, 1st

Designated hitter Bob Watson had 2 base hits as the Kimberton Firefighters
defeated the Glenmoore Stableboys in 11 innings 2-1 at Bentley Stadium.
 
Neither team scored in the first nine innings.  Kimberton won the hard fought
contest in the 11th inning.  Jose Cruz led off and started the attack as he
singled.  Greg Gross followed and he ripped a single.  Watson then ripped a
base-knock to load the bases.  Jerry Grote stepped in and he stroked a
single.  Jerry Mumphrey was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out.
Craig Robinson joined his teammates in the uprising and drew a walk.
Kimberton banged out 7 hits on the afternoon.  
 
Wayne Twitchell(3-2) allowed 1 run in 4 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Mike Wallace gained credit for his 1st save.  Gene Garber(2-4) took
the loss in relief.

Eric Rasmussen shut down the Glenmoore batters on just 3 hits at Bentley
Stadium as the Kimberton Firefighters beat the Glenmoore Stableboys 1-0.
 
The game was won by Kimberton when they scored a run in the 9th inning. After
an out was recorded, Mick Kelleher ripped a base-hit.  Taveras got a great
jump and stole second easily.  Bill Madlock was a strikeout victim, unable to
help out.  Bob Watson followed next and he slapped a one-base hit.  Reggie
Smith stepped into the box and slapped a single.  Manny Trillo kept things
alive and lined a base-hit to load the bases.  Kimberton had only 4 hits for
the game.  
 
Rasmussen(5-8) went the distance for the shutout. The loss was charged to
Frank Lacorte(5-9).  He surrendered just 2 hits and 2 walks in 8 and 2/3
innings.  
 
 
DEVAULT AT GUTHRIESVILLE, 1st

Bill Robinson left the yard and had 2 RBI as the Devault Dynamiters outscored
the pitiful Guthriesville Golddiggers 6-3.
 
Tom Griffin(4-5) pitched in relief and was credited with the victory.  He went
3 and 2/3 innings allowing 3 hits and 2 walks improving his ERA from 4.90 to
4.68.  Dan Warthen came throught with a perfect ninth inning to earn his 3rd
save.  
 
Ken Forsch(5-11) was the losing pitcher in relief.  He got hit pretty hard,
allowing 6 hits and 2 walks in 3 innings.  
 
 
DEVAULT AT GUTHRIESVILLE, 2nd

Bill Russell cracked a homer and had 2 RBI at Hopewell Field where the Devault
Dynamiters beat the dreadful Guthriesville Golddiggers 6-1.
 
Devault claimed the early lead in the first inning plating an isolated run
using 2 hits.  Garry Maddox doubled.  After an out was recorded, Tony Perez
stepped up to the plate and he reached on an error.  One out later, Richie
Zisk stepped up to the plate and he ripped a single.  Devault had 10 hits for
the game and Guthriesville had 3.  
 
Woodie Fryman(9-12) went 6 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Bruce Sutter
earned the save, his 30th.  Larry Christenson(3-14) absorbed the loss.  He
gave up 2 runs and 6 hits in 5 innings.
 
EAGLE AT MARSHALLTON

Don Sutton blanked Marshallton allowing just 2 hits at Four Dogs Field where
the seemingly unstoppable Eagle Eagles beat the Marshallton Mad Hatters 6-0.
 
Sutton(15-7) escaped virtually unscathed against the Marshallton hitters.  He
was stingy on the mound, allowing just 2 hits and no walks in 9 innings.
Eagle had 15 hits for the night.  
 
Gary Nolan(11-9) was given the loss.  He was knocked around by Eagle, allowing
11 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.

In a good matchup it was the Lionville ballclub 5, the Chester Springs team 3
at Foster Field.
 
In the 6th inning Lionville scored 2 runs.  Chester Springs threatened in the
9th but their rally came up short.  Bruce Kison(14-5) got credit for the
victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing 3 runs. Kison was helped out by Ron
Reed who recorded his 19th save.  Jerry Reuss(10-10) ended up with the loss.
He got hit hard, allowing 8 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.  
 
 
CHESTER SPRINGS AT LIONVILLE, 2nd

The Chester Springs club snapped their 5 game slide and defeated the Lionville
ballclub 4-1 at Foster Field.
 
Phil Niekro(13-12) delivered a fine performance for Chester Springs.  He
allowed 6 hits and no walks in 8 innings.  Chester Springs finished with 7
hits in the victory.  
 
Niekro got relief help from Charlie Hough who gained credit for his 30th save.
Burt Hooton(16-6) took the loss.  'Thankfully we got ourselves a win',
Niekro said.  'It's great to be back on the winning side of things.'
