Third baseman Ron Cey blasted a homerun and had 4 RBI as the Marshallton Mad
Hatters beat the Honey Brook Beekeepers 8-5.
 
Marshallton wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning with 3 runs
utilizing 3 base hits.  Ken Griffey started the inning off right when he
lined a base-hit.  Marty Perez followed and he ripped a base-knock.  Cey then
drew a walk to load the bases.  Rowland Office was up next and he would hit
into a force play.  Pete Lacock came to the plate and drew a walk to load the
bases.  After an out was recorded, Vic Correll stepped in and he smacked a
single.  Steve Ontiveros was a strikeout victim, unable to help out.
Marshallton won despite being out-hit by Honey Brook 16-12.
 
Charlie Williams(2-4) got the win allowing 3 runs in 5 innings. Rawly Eastwick
earned his 38th save.  Doc Medich(5-11) was tagged with the loss.  He allowed
6 hits and 2 walks in 1 and 1/3 innings.
 
GLENMOORE AT KIMBERTON

The Glenmoore Stableboys bested the Kimberton Firefighters 7-4 at Kimberton
Fairground.
 
Johnny Bench led the offense for Glenmoore.  He doubled bringing home two
baserunners in the 4th inning, doubled in the 6th inning and doubled bringing
in a run in the 8th inning.  Glenmoore had a total of 13 hits for the game.
 
Mickey Lolich(10-9) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings. The
losing pitcher was John Candelaria(15-7).  He pitched 7 and 2/3 innings
allowing 12 hits and 1 walk.
 
 
GUTHRIESVILLE AT DEVAULT

Richie Zisk went yard and had 2 RBI as the Devault Dynamiters defeated the
Guthriesville Golddiggers 5-2 at Great Valley Stadium.
 
Guthriesville was unable to claim the lead after Devault went ahead in the
bottom of the 3rd inning scoring 2 runs on 2 hits.  Garry Maddox got things
going when he drew a walk.  After an out was recorded, Rod Gilbreath came up
and he laced a one-base hit.  Tony Perez was the next batter, but he struck
out.  Zisk followed and he cracked a two-run shot.  Larry Parrish dug into
the batters box next, but he struck out.  That was all Jon Matlack(13-9)
needed.  Both teams finished the game with 11 hits.  
 
Bruce Sutter earned the save, his 32nd.  Steve Rogers(8-13) was hit with the
loss.  He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 11 hits and 2 walks in
8 innings.  
 
EAGLE AT ELVERSON

Doug Rau allowed John Carney to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game at
French Creek Park where the Elverson Squires beat the Eagle Eagles 5-3.
 
Rau(12-10) delivered a fine performance for Elverson.  He went 9 innings
surrendering 10 hits and 2 walks.  Both teams totaled 10 hits on the night.
 
Rick Reuschel(16-11) ended up with the loss.  'He gutted it out' John Carney
said of Rau.  'I was very impressed by his tenacity.'
 
LIONVILLE AT CHESTER SPRINGS

Ken Reitz cracked a homer and had 2 RBI as the strong Lionville ballclub
bested the Chester Springs team 5-4 at Historic Village Park.
 
Lionville jumped on top of Chester Springs in the 6th inning scoring a single
run.  Chester Springs had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.  
 
The win was credited to Steve Carlton(18-4) who went 7 and 2/3 innings
allowing 4 runs. Carlton got relief help from Chuck Taylor who gained credit
for his 2nd save.  Jerry Reuss(10-11) was given the loss.  He allowed 5 runs
and 8 hits in 5 and 2/3 innings.  
 
'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Carlton, 'I got burned
on a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'
