The sizzling Eagle Eagles edged the Elverson Squires in 10 innings at Hickory
Park 6-5.
 
The score was tied at 5 after nine.  Eagle won the game in the 10th inning.
Pete Rose slapped a one-base hit.  Omar Moreno stepped up to the plate and he
reached on an error.  After an out was recorded, Dave Parker stepped in and
he banged out a single giving Eagle the win much to the delight of the home
town crowd.  Elverson out-hit Eagle 13-10, but Eagle ended up with more
runs.  
 
Randy Moffitt(7-6) allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Jim Barr(11-15) was tagged with the loss.  Eagle added another win
to their mounting winning streak. 'It seems we can't lose these days', Bob
Phillips volunteered after the game.  Then after a moment to reflect he
lamented, 'Oh great! Now I've gone and jinxed us!'

Junior Moore had 4 hits and 4 RBI and Jerry Koosman had an impressive outing
as the Honey Brook Beekeepers crushed the Marshallton Mad Hatters 11-1.
 
Moore provided much of the offense.  He doubled in the 5th inning, doubled
plating two runs in the 6th inning, smacked a single in the 8th inning and
laced a base-knock bringing home two baserunners in the 9th inning.  Honey
Brook finished with 18 hits in the victory.  
 
Koosman(12-6) finished the game allowing 1 run in the victory. Tom
Underwood(8-6) took the loss.  He was knocked around by Honey Brook, allowing
8 hits and 3 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.  
 
'Our guys just weren't seeing the ball today.' John Young said.  'Koosman
simply dominated us.'
 
CHESTER SPRINGS AT GLENMOORE

The Glenmoore Stableboys defeated the Chester Springs team 5-1 at Bentley
Stadium.
 
Glenmoore set the tone of the game in the first inning plating one baserunner
on 2 base hits.  After an out was recorded, Bake McBride delivered a single.
Jack Billingham then let one slip out of his hand for a wild pitch.  Willie
Montanez then ripped a base-knock.  Johnny Bench followed and he would hit
into a force play.  For the game Glenmoore out-hit Chester Springs 11-4.
 
The victory went to Mickey Lolich(9-9) who went 7 and 1/3 innings, allowing 1
run. Gary Lavelle recorded the save, his 4th.  Billingham(5-8) suffered the
loss.  He was touched for 11 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.  
 
 
KIMBERTON AT GUTHRIESVILLE

The Guthriesville Golddiggers and the Kimberton Firefighters locked up in an
exciting one-run game at Hopewell Field.  The final score was the
Guthriesville Golddiggers 4, the Kimberton Firefighters 3.
 
Ken Forsch(5-10) contributed a very nice performance in relief.  He allowed
only 1 hit and no walks in 1 and 1/3 innings.  Kimberton made it exciting in
the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.  
 
John Candelaria(15-6) was given the loss.  Gary Scott was in a talkative mood
in the clubhouse, 'Great game! If only we could win all of the close ones -
wouldn't that be nice! Since that's not going to happen, I think I'll savor
this one for a little while.'

With the crowd on their collective feet, screaming at the top of their lungs,
the incredible Lionville club rallied to top Devault Dynamiters 2-1.
 
Lionville had the winning rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs using 2 hits.
Greg Luzinski led off and keyed the rally when he doubled.  Joe Torre stepped
into the batter's box and he reached on an error.  Wynn was running on the
next pitch and he stole second.  Two outs later Ken Boswell stepped up to the
plate and he was walked intentionally to load the bases.  Chris Speier came
up to bat and drew a walk.  Joe Morgan contributed to the rally and ripped a
one-base hit.  Lionville totaled 7 hits on the afternoon.  
 
The win was credited to Ron Reed(12-3) who went 2/3 of an inning allowing no
runs. Bruce Sutter(3-7) absorbed the loss in relief.  He allowed 2 runs and 2
hits in 2/3 of an inning.  
 
Reed and Morgan were really whooping it up in the clubhouse after the great
come from behind victory.  As Jon Brams noted, 'A win like this one can do
wonders for a team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans, the
players - even you guys - it's better than winning by a dozen runs!'
