Pete Falcone took a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Honey Brook
Beekeepers outscored the Marshallton Mad Hatters 3-0.
 
Falcone(7-13) was simply too much for the Marshallton batters.  He allowed
only 4 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings.  The left-handed Falcone lost his chance
for a no-hitter when Ron Hodges singled with nobody out in the 6th inning.
The Marshallton offense proved no trouble in the 9th.  
 
Steve Renko(10-9) was the loser. 
 
GLENMOORE AT KIMBERTON

Johnny Bench touched them all and had 3 RBI as the Glenmoore Stableboys
rallied impressively to win in dramatic style over Kimberton Firefighters, 9-6.
 
Glenmoore won the game with a rally in the 9th inning when they tallied 6 runs
on 4 hits.  The big moment was provided by Bench who deflated the crowd as he
clubbed a three-run home run.  Glenmoore and Kimberton each finished the
afternoon with 13 hits.  
 
Bo McLaughlin(3-5) allowed 1 run in 3 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Skip Lockwood(4-5) took the loss in relief.  After the game, it took
a long while before Rich Pawlak emerged from his office.  In a subdued tone
he answered only a couple of questions.  He concluded with, 'Fellows, sorry
I'm not in a very talkative mood this afternoon, as I think you'll
understand.  I'm sure you'll find the banter a lot more light-hearted over in
the Glenmoore locker room.'
 
GUTHRIESVILLE AT DEVAULT

Catcher Gary Carter went yard and had 2 RBI as the Devault Dynamiters defeated
the floundering Guthriesville Golddiggers 5-4 at Great Valley Stadium.
 
Devault took the lead for good in the 7th inning scoring one runner.
Guthriesville out-hit Devault 12-8, but Devault ended up with more runs.
 
Tommy John(10-11) went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs for the win. Bruce
Sutter recorded the save, his 33rd.  The loss was charged to Larry
Dierker(6-13).  
 
 
EAGLE AT ELVERSON, 1st

Bill Plummer had 3 base hits and 3 RBI as the Eagle Eagles topped the Elverson
Squires in 10 innings 9-8 at French Creek Park.
 
The game was deadlocked at 8 after nine full innings.  Eagle came out on top
in the 10th inning.  Felix Millan drew a walk.  Two outs later Bud Harrelson
came up and he drew a walk.  Pete Rose then stroked a one-base hit.  Rose
swiped second base.  Eagle had 15 hits for the afternoon while Elverson had
11.  
 
Randy Moffitt(8-6) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings. Ron
Schueler(0-2) was given the loss in relief.  He pitched 2 innings giving up 3
hits and 2 walks.
 
 
EAGLE AT ELVERSON, 2nd

The Elverson Squires and the Eagle Eagles locked up in an exciting one-run
game at French Creek Park.  The final score was the Elverson Squires 5, the
Eagle Eagles 4.
 
Ed Halicki(9-12) earned his pay with a solid performance for Elverson.  He
went 8 innings allowing 11 hits and 1 walk.  Elverson won despite being
out-hit by Eagle 11-8.  
 
Al Hrabosky preserved the game for Halicki, recording his his 17th.  Don
Sutton(15-8) was tagged with the loss.  He served up 3 homeruns in his 7 and
2/3 innings.  
 
'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' John Carney said after the game.  'Halicki did not have command
of his pitches most of the afternoon, but he proved he really knew how to
pitch!'
 
LIONVILLE AT CHESTER SPRINGS

Jerry Royster had 2 base hits and Tom Seaver racked up an impressive total of
10 strikeouts as the Chester Springs team beat the Lionville club 2-1.
 
Seaver(15-8) was virtually untouchable.  He didn't allow much, just 5 hits and
2 walks in 9 innings.  Chester Springs had just 6 hits for the afternoon.
 
Burt Hooton(16-7) was hit with the loss.  He was the victim of a defensive
lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.  
 
Jim Ghoulach was asked about the performance of Seaver, 'He had his good stuff
out there this afternoon.  The fans really get into it when the strikeouts
start mounting up - and that seems to give him even more adrenalin.'
