Designated hitter Tony Perez connected with a 'big fly' at Great Valley
Stadium where the Devault Dynamiters beat the Kimberton Firefighters by the
score of 8-4.
 
Devault jumped out to the early lead in the first inning when they tallied 2
runs on 3 hits.  The critical plate appearance was by Phil Garner who made
the crowd come alive when he smashed a two-run homer.  Devault out-hit
Kimberton for the game, 12-7.  
 
The win went to Joaquin Andujar(7-6) who allowed 4 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings.
John Candelaria(11-11) was given the loss.  He allowed 5 homeruns in 8
innings of work.  
 
KIMBERTON AT DEVAULT, 2nd

Tony Perez hit for the cycle and had 5 RBI at Great Valley Stadium as the
Devault Dynamiters beat the Kimberton Firefighters in 11 innings by the count
of 8-7.
 
The score was knotted at 7 after nine innings.  Devault won the hard fought
contest in the 11th inning.  After an out was recorded, Garry Maddox tripled.
Perez stepped into the batter's box and he laced a single making Devault the
victors to the delight of the home town faithful.  Devault had 16 hits for
the afternoon.  
 
The winning pitcher was Rich Gossage(4-1) who allowed no runs in 5 innings.
The losing pitcher was Skip Lockwood(4-7) in relief.  'They made a couple of
mistakes and I took full advantage,' Perez said 'next time I'm sure they'll
pitch me tougher.'

Shortstop Larry Bowa had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Hickory Park where the Chester
Springs ballclub beat the Eagle Eagles 8-3.
 
Chester Springs wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning when they
came up with 2 runs on 2 hits.  The key offensive moment was provided by
Willie McCovey who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he popped
a two-run clout over the fence.  Chester Springs had 10 hits for the
afternoon while Eagle had 5.  
 
The victory went to Joe Niekro(11-1) who went 8 innings, allowing 3 runs. Rick
Reuschel(10-9) took the loss.  He allowed 9 hits and 5 walks in 6 and 2/3
innings.  
 
GUTHRIESVILLE AT HONEY BROOK

The Honey Brook Beekeepers toppled the Guthriesville Golddiggers by a 5-1
score at The Nest.
 
In the 3rd inning Honey Brook went on top for good when they scored 2 runs on
3 hits.  The early run support proved sufficient for Bob Knepper(5-10) and
Honey Brook.  That was all the run support Knepper required.  Honey Brook
totaled 10 hits on the afternoon.  
 
Santo Alcala gained credit for his 2nd save.  Larry Christenson(7-12) was
charged with the loss.  He surrendered 7 hits and no walks in 6 and 1/3
innings.
 
GLENMOORE AT ELVERSON

First baseman Steve Garvey smacked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Elverson
Squires bested the Glenmoore Stableboys 4-1 at French Creek Park.
 
Garvey enjoyed a fine day at the plate.  He cracked a two-run shot in the 3rd
inning and delivered a solo blast in the 6th inning.  Elverson banged out 8
hits on the afternoon.  
 
Bob Forsch(12-7) went 8 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Dave Tomlin
preserved the game for Forsch, recording his his 6th.  Rick Rhoden(9-10) was
the loser.  He pitched 6 innings allowing 8 hits and no walks.
 
LIONVILLE AT MARSHALLTON

Jerry Morales touched them all as the Lionville club defeated the Marshallton
Mad Hatters by the score of 9-2 at Four Dogs Field.
 
Marshallton never recovered after Lionville took the lead in the top of the
3rd inning scoring 2 runners on 2 hits.  Lionville finished with 15 hits
while Marshallton ended up with 10.  
 
The win was credited to Bruce Kison(7-8) who went 8 innings allowing 2 runs.
The loss was charged to Bob Shirley(9-9).  He pitched 6 innings and
surrendered 6 hits and 4 walks.
