1,064 fans were treated to a fine game at Bentley Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The blistering-hot Glenmoore
Stableboys won by the slimmest of margins, 4-3.
Both teams had scored 2 runs after nine full innings. Glenmoore won the hard
fought contest in the 12th inning. After an out was recorded, Dave
Concepcion got things rolling when he reached on an error. One out later,
Johnny Bench stepped in and he doubled. Willie Montanez then lined a
one-base hit. Both teams finished the game with 11 hits.
Gene Garber(8-3) allowed 1 run in 3 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. The loss was charged to Bruce Sutter(4-3) in relief. He pitched 2/3
of an inning allowing 2 hits and no walks.

Fred Norman dominated striking out 10 Guthriesville batters as the Kimberton
Firefighters destroyed the Guthriesville Golddiggers by a score of 12-2 at
Hopewell Field.
Norman(11-7) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He surrendered only 5
hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. Kimberton rapped out 14 hits for the
afternoon.
Andy Messersmith(1-2) took the loss. He was touched for 8 hits and 3 walks in
4 and 1/3 innings. 'He was really impressive today,' Messersmith said of his
counterpart. 'Our guys were just swinging at air.'

Bob Watson hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI as the Kimberton Firefighters outscored
the Guthriesville Golddiggers 9-4.
Bob Myrick(3-2) delivered a fine performance for Kimberton. He went 6 and 2/3
innings and surrended up 6 hits and 1 walk. Overall Kimberton out-hit
Guthriesville 15-7.
Buzz Capra(4-9) was the loser. He was knocked around, surrendering 6 runs in
4 innings.

In a good matchup it was the Eagle Eagles 10, the Honey Brook Beekeepers 7 at
The Nest.
Honey Brook never recovered after Eagle took the lead in the top of the 3rd
inning plating 3 runs using 4 hits. After an out was recorded, Bruce
Boisclair initiated the scoring spurt when he doubled. Omar Moreno came next
and he tripled. Pete Rose then laced a one-base hit. George Foster followed
and he drew a walk. One out later, Dan Driessen stepped up to the plate and
he ripped a base-hit. Honey Brook threatened in the 9th but their rally came
up short.
Pat Zachry(6-9) went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 5 runs for the victory. Ray
Burris(8-11) ended up with the loss. He was unable to control the Eagle
offense and allowed 8 hits and 2 walks in 4 innings.
When questioned about the loss, Chris McLaughlin said, 'The fans got to see an
exciting game out there this afternoon. Unfortunately, we couldn't get it
done this time. Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the
smiles.'

In a close game the Eagle Eagles got by the hopeless Honey Brook Beekeepers by
the score of 5-3.
In the 6th inning Eagle scored 2 runs when they had 3 base hits. The
highlight belonged to Pete Rose who quieted the home crowd when he stroked a
base-hit plating two runs. Don Stanhouse(5-6) was helped out by Bill
Atkinson who pitched a perfect ninth and recorded his 20th save.
Bob Knepper(4-10) absorbed the loss. He pitched 5 and 1/3 innings and
surrendered 6 hits and 2 walks.

Tom Underwood pitched a complete game and Ron Cey lofted one into the 'cheap
seats' and had 3 RBI as the Marshallton Mad Hatters bested the Elverson
Squires 7-2 at French Creek Park.
In the top of the 3rd inning Marshallton went on top for good when they came
up with 2 runs on 2 hits. That was all Underwood(5-8) needed. Both teams
totaled 9 hits on the afternoon.
Ed Halicki(11-10) suffered the loss. He gave up 8 hits and 3 walks in 7 and
1/3 innings.

At French Creek Park, the Elverson faithful were treated to an intriguing
pitcher's duel. Doug Rau(8-10) finally bested his Marshallton counterpart,
Eddie Solomon(4-7), by the score of 2-1.
Rau pitched a solid game. He surrendered 7 hits and 1 walk in 8 and 1/3
innings. Marshallton made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to
push the needed runs across.
Dave Tomlin got the save, his 5th. Solomon absorbed the loss. He got hit
hard, allowing 8 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.

Steve Carlton completed the game without help from the bullpen and designated
hitter Greg Luzinski had 4 hits at Foster Field as the Lionville team beat
the Chester Springs club by the count of 8-1.
Lionville promptly took the lead in their half of the first with 2 runs
utilizing 4 base hits. Joe Morgan led off and he laced a base-knock. Two
outs later Luzinski came to bat and tripled. Davey Johnson then stroked a
single. Ken Reitz was up next and he doubled. Jerry Morales came to the
plate and drew a walk to load the bases. The early run support proved
sufficient for Carlton(13-8) and Lionville. That was all the run support
Carlton required. Lionville had 14 hits for the afternoon.
Jerry Reuss(6-8) was given the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and
2 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.
