Phil Niekro recorded a complete game shutout at Historic Village Park as the
dominant Chester Springs team beat the Kimberton Firefighters 8-0.
Niekro(16-6) looked very much in control throughout the night. He gave up
just 7 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. Chester Springs totaled 12 hits on the
night.
John Candelaria(10-10) was the loser. He got hit hard, allowing 9 hits and 3
walks in 6 innings.

Darrel Chaney had 2 base hits at Hickory Park as the Eagle Eagles staged a
comeback win over the Marshallton Mad Hatters 9-8.
Eagle scored the winning runs in the 9th inning when they tallied 4 runs on 6
hits. Overall Eagle out-hit Marshallton 17-12.
The win went to Gene Pentz(6-5) who allowed no runs in 1/3 of an inning. The
loss was charged to Rollie Fingers(1-8) in relief. Bob Phillips was all
smiles after the ballgame, 'It sure was looking pretty dim there for a while,
but our guys never gave up - and neither did our fans - they kept cheering us
on. What a sweet win!'

Steve Rogers went 9 solid innings as the Guthriesville Golddiggers topped the
Devault Dynamiters by a score of 7-1 at Hopewell Field.
Rogers(15-8) was in control of the game from the outset. He allowed just 6
hits and no walks in 9 innings. Guthriesville finished with 9 hits in the
victory.
Randy Lerch(6-15) was charged with the loss. He surrendered 7 hits and 3
walks in 7 and 2/3 innings. 'When Rogers is on like that it is a tough game
to play, no doubt about it,' Barney Charney said. 'He always pitches well
against us.'
