Left fielder Jose Cruz had 2 base hits as the Kimberton Firefighters defeated
the Chester Springs team 4-3 at Historic Village Park.
Kimberton brought 2 runs across the plate in the top of the 2nd inning when
they came up with 3 base hits. They would prove to be the difference in the
contest. Chester Springs had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
The win went to Eric Rasmussen(12-6) who allowed 3 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings.
Skip Lockwood got the save, his 17th. Tom Seaver(12-7) was the loser. He
gave up 4 runs and 9 hits in 9 innings.
'Anytime you lose it hurts,' said Jim Ghoulach 'but it's losing the close ones
that really hurt.'

Left fielder Willie Crawford had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Bentley Stadium
where the Glenmoore Stableboys beat the awful Honey Brook Beekeepers in 10
innings 5-4.
The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Glenmoore was victorious in
the 10th inning. Johnny Bench doubled. Two outs later McBride proceeded to
steal third base. Crawford then smacked a single making Glenmoore the
winners and sending the 1,110 fans home happy. Glenmoore had 12 hits for the
night.
John Urrea(12-6) allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Dave Campbell(4-4) ended up with the loss in relief. He surrendered
2 hits and no walks in 2 innings.

Ron Cey had 4 hits and 3 RBI and Bob Shirley didn't allow a hit until the 7th
inning as the Eagle Eagles were badly beaten by the Marshallton Mad Hatters, 13-0.
Cey provided much of the offense. He delivered a single in the 2nd inning,
laced a base-knock in the 4th inning, laced a one-base hit in the 5th inning
and popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 8th inning. Marshallton had
many opportunities throughout the game and scored in 6 separate innings.
For Shirley(9-7) it was his 2nd shutout this year. The left-handed Shirley
lost a no-hitter when Pete Rose singled with nobody out in the 7th inning.
Rick Reuschel(9-7) was tagged with the loss. He gave up 7 runs in 4 innings
of work.
Shirley was humble when questioned about his performance, 'Well, I felt pretty
confident in my pitches tonight. But, I had great support behind me and I
just threw what was called. That was an extremely well called game!'

Gary Carter knocked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Hopewell Field as the Devault
Dynamiters beat the Guthriesville Golddiggers 5-2.
Carter enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He smashed a solo-shot out of the
park in the 2nd inning, slapped a single in the 3rd inning and bombed a
two-run dinger in the 5th inning. Devault had a total of 10 hits for the
game.
Joaquin Andujar(5-6) got the win allowing 2 runs in 7 innings. Andujar was
helped out by Bruce Sutter who recorded his 27th save. Buzz Capra(4-8) was
given the loss. He surrended 4 homeruns in his 4 and 1/3 innings.

Burt Hooton had an impressive outing at Foster Field as the Lionville ballclub
beat the Elverson Squires 7-2.
The game started off with Lionville taking the lead in the first scoring 2
runs using 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Ted Simmons opened up the
rally as he lined a one-base hit. Gene Clines stepped up to the plate and he
slapped a base-hit. Greg Luzinski then drew a walk to load the bases. Ken
Reitz was up next and he would ground out. Ed Kranepool came up to bat and
laced a single. Lionville totaled 10 hits on the night.
The victory was credited to Hooton(8-5) who went the distance, allowing 2
runs. Nino Espinosa(3-5) suffered the loss. Lionville knocked him around a
bit, as he gave up 7 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings.
Hooton was obviously very pleased with his performance in the aftermath of the
game, 'It was just one of those games where everything worked. My arm felt
great, heck, I could have pitched another two or three innings. I only hope
that I can do it again next time out!'
