Catcher Barry Foote knocked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Guthriesville
Golddiggers defeated the Glenmoore Stableboys 7-2 at Bentley Stadium.
 
Foote had a big day with his bat.  He lifted one out of the park for a two run
home run in the 1st inning and cracked a solo homerun in the 5th inning.
Overall Guthriesville out-hit Glenmoore 12-7.  
 
The winning pitcher was Grant Jackson(5-3) who allowed 2 runs in 5 and 2/3
innings. Jackson got relief help from Ken Forsch who gained credit for his
5th save.  The loss was charged to Rick Rhoden(6-8).  He was unable to
control the Guthriesville offense and allowed 9 hits and 3 walks in 4 and 2/3
innings.  
 
KIMBERTON AT MARSHALLTON

Frank Taveras had 4 hits and 2 RBI as the Kimberton Firefighters bested the
Marshallton Mad Hatters in 10 innings 8-6 at Four Dogs Field.
 
Both teams were tied at 6 runs apiece after nine innings.  Kimberton won the
hard fought contest in the 10th inning.  George Mitterwald led off the inning
for Kimberton when he drew a walk.  Manny Trillo came next and he laid down a
sacrifice bunt.  Cruz proceeded to steal third base.  Jerry Mumphrey dug into
the batters box next, but he struck out.  Taveras stepped into the box and
slapped a one-base hit.  Kimberton continued their aggressive style with
another stolen base.  Bill Madlock next to the plate and he laced a base-hit.
For the game Kimberton out-hit Marshallton 17-13.  
 
The win was credited to Skip Lockwood(4-5) who went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing
no runs. The losing pitcher was Rollie Fingers(0-6) in relief.  
 
DEVAULT AT HONEY BROOK

Willie Stargell homered and had 3 RBI and Santo Alcala pitched 5 strong
innings at The Nest where the Honey Brook Beekeepers beat the Devault
Dynamiters 9-6.
 
Honey Brook came up with 5 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning with the help
of 4 hits.  The biggest moment was provided by Stargell who made the
home-town crowd a happy bunch when he stroked a base-hit bringing home two
baserunners.  Honey Brook finished with 11 hits while Devault ended up with 6.
 
Alcala(3-7) allowed no runs in 5 innings, and picked up the victory. Joe
Kerrigan recorded the save, his 8th.  Jackie Brown(3-6) was charged with the
loss.  He allowed Honey Brook 6 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings of work.  
 
CHESTER SPRINGS AT ELVERSON

In a game for the baseball purist, Phil Niekro(12-6) and Ed Halicki(9-8)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, incredible Chester Springs team finally
emerged victorious over Elverson Squires, 2-1.
 
The score was knotted at 1 after nine innings.  Chester Springs won it in the
10th inning.  After an out was recorded, Jerry Royster tripled.  Lenny Randle
stepped into the batter's box and he hit a single.  After another out, Willie
McCovey came to bat and drew a walk.  Chester Springs rapped out 9 hits for
the afternoon.  
 
Charlie Hough got the save, his 20th.
 
EAGLE AT LIONVILLE

The Lionville club edged the Eagle Eagles at Foster Field by the score of 6-5.
 
Burt Hooton(7-5) pitched well for Lionville in their victory.  He went 7 and
2/3 innings and surrended up 6 hits and 3 walks.  Lionville out-hit Eagle for
the game, 12-6.  
 
Ron Reed earned his 6th save.  Pat Zachry(4-9) took the loss.  He served up 3
homeruns in his 6 innings.
