Keith Hernandez hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI as the Guthriesville Golddiggers
bested the reeling Eagle Eagles 11-3 at Hickory Park.
 
Steve Rogers(12-7) delivered a fine performance for Guthriesville.  He went 8
and 2/3 innings and surrended up 7 hits and 4 walks.  Guthriesville kept the
pressure on throughout the contest as they scored in 6 different innings.
 
Don Sutton(8-7) was given the loss.  He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and 4
walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.
 
CHESTER SPRINGS AT MARSHALLTON

Joe Niekro had an impressive outing and Larry Bowa had 2 base hits as the
Chester Springs club defeated the floundering Marshallton Mad Hatters by a
score of 6-1 at Four Dogs Field.
 
Chester Springs came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 9th
inning when they tallied 5 runs on 3 hits.  The big moment was provided by
Lee Lacy who silenced the crowd when he ripped a one-base hit scoring two
baserunners.  Chester Springs managed only 6 hits on the night.
 
Niekro(9-1) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. Rollie Fingers(0-5)
was charged with the loss in relief.  When questioned about his counterpart
after the game, Fingers was lavish in his praise, 'It was obvious very early
on that we were going to be in for a long night.  Niekro brought his 'A' game
with him - he had good stuff and was able to spot it perfectly.  He probably
only made one or two bad pitches the entire game!
 
KIMBERTON AT HONEY BROOK

George Hendrick connected with a 'big fly' and had 3 RBI as the Honey Brook
Beekeepers were badly beaten by the Kimberton Firefighters, 15-5.
 
Hendrick led the offense for Kimberton.  He smacked a three-run homer in the
1st inning, lined a base-hit in the 3rd inning and ripped a single in the 5th
inning.  Kimberton bats were very productive in the 2nd inning when they had
7 runs on 4 hits.  Kimberton finished with 18 hits while Honey Brook ended up
with 7.  
 
The victory went to Jim Lonborg(7-5) who went 6 and 2/3 innings, allowing 5
runs. Santo Alcala(2-7) suffered the loss.  He pitched 1 inning giving up 5
hits and 1 walk.
 
DEVAULT AT ELVERSON

The Devault Dynamiters bested the Elverson Squires by a 6-3 score at French
Creek Park.
 
Jon Matlack(10-5) gave a fine effort for Devault.  He went 7 and 1/3 innings
allowing 6 hits and 3 walks and allowed 3 gopher balls.  For the game Devault
out-hit Elverson 9-6.  
 
Bruce Sutter gained credit for his 24th save. The loss was charged to Jim
Barr(5-12).  He pitched 6 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 6 hits and 1 walk.
 
GLENMOORE AT LIONVILLE

Steve Carlton was on top of his game, blanking Glenmoore on just 2 hits as the
Lionville ballclub man-handled the Glenmoore Stableboys - the final score was
11-0.
 
Carlton(12-8) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Glenmoore
hitters.  He didn't allow much, just 2 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings reducing
his ERA from 4.38 to 4.15.  Lionville rapped out 12 hits for the night.
 
Rick Rhoden(6-7) was the loser.  He was unable to control the Lionville
offense and allowed 6 hits and 4 walks in 3 and 1/3 innings.
