Bob Watson slammed a homerun and had 4 RBI as the Kimberton Firefighters
defeated the Marshallton Mad Hatters 8-6 at Kimberton Fairground.
 
Watson provided much of the offense.  He lifted one out of the park for a two
run home run in the 1st inning and laced a base-hit resulting in a run in the
7th inning.  Marshallton made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to
push the needed runs across.  
 
The winning pitcher was Eric Rasmussen(9-6) who allowed 6 runs in 7 and 2/3
innings. Skip Lockwood earned his 12th save.  The losing pitcher was Bob
Shirley(8-5).  He got hit hard, allowing 8 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings.
 
'He gutted it out' Rich Pawlak said of Rasmussen.  'I was very impressed by
his tenacity.'

In a two run game the Honey Brook Beekeepers got by the Devault Dynamiters 5-3.
 
Honey Brook scored 3 runs in the decisive 6th inning. The teams had been
locked in a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.  
 
Jerry Koosman(9-7) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 7 innings. Joe
Kerrigan was credited with his 7th save.  Jon Matlack(9-5) was charged with
the loss.  He pitched 5 and 2/3 innings giving up 5 hits and 3 walks.

Dave Winfield left the yard at Historic Village Park. as the spectacular Chester
Springs team beat the Elverson Squires 3-2.
 
Phil Niekro(10-6) pitched a solid game.  He went 8 innings allowing 5 hits and
5 walks.  Elverson had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.  
 
Dale Murray recorded the save, his 1st.  Mike Garman(6-7) was tagged with the
loss in relief.  John Carney was in a contemplative mood after the tough
loss, 'It is really hard to lose this kind of a game.  It may seem weird to
some, but it is easier to take the occasional blow-out loss.  It is the ones
that just barely get away that hurt so much - like this one!'

Barry Foote hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI at Hopewell Field where the
Guthriesville Golddiggers beat the Eagle Eagles 7-6.
 
The game was won by Guthriesville with a run in the bottom of the 8th inning.
After two outs Keith Hernandez drew a walk.  Foote stepped up next and he
doubled.  Eagle tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.  
 
Ken Forsch(3-3) went 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory. Forsch
got help from Grant Jackson who was credited with his 4th save.  Bill
Atkinson(4-7) was the losing pitcher in relief.  
 
LIONVILLE AT GLENMOORE

The Lionville club nipped the Glenmoore Stableboys 4-3 at Bentley Stadium
in a hard fought contest.
 
Lionville brought 2 runs across the plate in the top of the 7th inning when
they had 3 base hits.  They would be enough to earn the win.  Lionville had 9
hits overall, while Glenmoore had 6.  
 
Steve Carlton(11-8) went 8 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Carlton was
helped out by Joe Sambito who recorded his 5th save.  Rick Rhoden(6-6)
absorbed the loss.
