1,309 fans watched an exciting game at Hickory Park.  The Guthriesville
Golddiggers topped the Eagle Eagles by the slimmest of margins, 6-5.
 
Jim Kaat(7-5) had a solid outing for Guthriesville.  He was reached for 7 hits
and 1 walk in 7 innings.  Eagle made it exciting in the 9th, but they were
unable to push the needed runs across.  
 
Kaat was helped out by Kent Tekulve who recorded his 13th save.  Don
Stanhouse(4-6) absorbed the loss.  Bob Phillips was in a sour mood after the
game.  'Even you guys up in the press box know why we lost this game. We made
too many mistakes.'

Phil Niekro tossed a complete game and Jose Cardenal had 3 base hits as the
Chester Springs club beat the slumping Marshallton Mad Hatters 4-2.
 
Marshallton never recovered after Chester Springs took the lead in the 2nd
inning when they came up with 2 runs on 3 hits.  Marshallton went down
without a fight in the bottom of the 9th.  
 
The victory went to Niekro(11-6) who went the distance allowing 2 runs. Bob
Shirley(8-6) was the loser.  He got hit pretty hard, allowing 8 hits and 2
walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.  
 
KIMBERTON AT HONEY BROOK

Designated hitter Gary Matthews blasted a homerun and had 3 RBI at The Nest as
the Honey Brook Beekeepers, running on all cylinders, ripped the Kimberton
Firefighters by a large 11-1 margin.
 
Honey Brook took the lead off John Candelaria in the first inning when they
tallied 2 runs on 3 hits.  That early scoring was all that Dave
Freisleben(2-9) needed.  For the game Honey Brook out-hit Kimberton 14-10.
 
Candelaria(9-9) was the losing pitcher.  He was knocked around by Honey Brook,
allowing 10 hits and 2 walks in 3 and 1/3 innings.

The Elverson Squires came in to the game in quite a tailspin, but they were
able to snap their 5 game slide and had an easy time of it at French Creek
Park defeating the Devault Dynamiters 10-3.
 
Elverson tallied 6 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning with the help of 5
hits.  That was all the runs Ed Halicki(9-7) needed.  Elverson had 14 hits
for the game and Devault had 9.  
 
The loss was charged to Randy Lerch(4-12).  He surrendered 5 runs and 5 hits
in 1 and 2/3 innings.  'After the stretch we have been through lately, this
victory is especially sweet' offered John Carney.  Now, we just have to make
this the norm - not the exception!'

Paul Reuschel went 3 and one third strong innings as the Glenmoore Stableboys
topped the Lionville team in 12 innings 5-3 at Foster Field
Field.
 
Both teams had scored 2 runs after nine full innings.  Glenmoore came out on
top in the 12th inning.  Merv Rettenmund led off the inning for Glenmoore
when he drew a walk.  Ted Sizemore next to the plate and he doubled.  Dave
Concepcion then was walked intentionally to load the bases.  Warren Cromartie
came up and he banged out a single, and an error was also committed.  Johnny
Bench came to the plate and was walked intentionally to load the bases.
After another out, Richie Hebner followed, but he was set down on strikes.
Glenmoore finished with 12 hits in the victory.  
 
The win went to Pedro Borbon(1-2) who allowed 1 run in 3 innings. Joe
Sambito(2-3) ended up with the loss in relief.  He allowed 2 hits and 3 walks
in 1 and 2/3 innings.
