Jon Matlack reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts as the Devault Dynamiters
defeated the Glenmoore Stableboys 8-1 at Bentley Stadium.
 
Matlack(8-3) escaped virtually unscathed against the Glenmoore hitters.  He
didn't allow much, just 5 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings dropping his ERA from
4.24 to 3.87.  Devault finished with 8 hits in the victory.  
 
Floyd Bannister(3-7) was the losing pitcher.  Devault knocked him around a
bit, as he gave up 6 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.  Matlack was humble when
questioned about his performance, 'Well, I felt pretty confident in my
pitches tonight.  But, I had great support behind me and I just threw what
was called.  That was an extremely well called game!'

Ed Halicki threw a complete game shutout as the Elverson Squires ballclub
embarrassed the Eagle Eagles 10-0.
 
Halicki(5-6) gave Elverson a solid outing.  He went 9 innings and surrended up
8 hits and 2 walks lowering his ERA to 3.82.  Elverson banged out 17 hits on
the night.  
 
Don Stanhouse(3-4) was tagged with the loss.  He got hammered, allowing 7 hits
and 2 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.
 
KIMBERTON AT GUTHRIESVILLE

Dan Larson allowed Rich Pawlak to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as
the Kimberton Firefighters outscored the Guthriesville Golddiggers 9-1.
 
Bob Watson had a big day with his bat.  He cracked a two-run shot in the 1st
inning, doubled resulting in a run in the 3rd inning and slapped a single in
the 9th inning.  Kimberton managed 14 hits in their victory.  
 
The victory went to Larson(1-2) who went the distance allowing 1 run. Steve
Rogers(7-5) was charged with the loss.  He got hit pretty hard, allowing 13
hits and 4 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings.

Bob Knepper whiffed 10 batters at Four Dogs Field where the Honey Brook
Beekeepers beat the Marshallton Mad Hatters 4-3.
 
Knepper(3-5) had a strong outing.  He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 6
hits and no walks in 8 and 1/3 innings lowering his ERA from 4.03 to 3.82.
Marshallton had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.  
 
Knepper got help from Tug McGraw who earned his 1st save.  Bob Shirley(7-3)
was the loser.  Knepper was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well,
it's a little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of
cheers and a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and
quiet.  Just strange - but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the
game.'

The Chester Springs ballclub nipped the Lionville club 4-3 at Foster Field
in a hard fought contest.
 
Chester Springs won the game with a rally in the 8th inning plating 3 runs on
4 base hits.  John Stearns led off the inning for Chester Springs when he
laced a base-knock, and an error was also committed.  After an out was
recorded, Bobby Valentine came to bat and hit a single.  One out later, Jose
Cardenal stepped in and he singled.  Ron Reed then uncorked a wild pitch.
Jim Fregosi stepped into the box and delivered a one-base hit.  Lionville
threatened in the 9th but Chester Springs was able to put down the rally.
 
Charlie Hough(3-1) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 3 innings. Bo
McLaughlin recorded the save, his 3rd.  The loss was charged to Randy
Jones(4-5).  He pitched 7 and 2/3 innings giving up 6 hits and 1 walk.
 
'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them' Jon Brams said. 'We did what
we could, we just didn't pull out the win. What can you say?'
