Dave Winfield had 4 hits and 5 RBI at Bentley Stadium as the Chester Springs
ballclub beat the Glenmoore Stableboys 9-4.
 
Winfield had a big day against Glenmoore.  He laced a base-hit plating a run
in the 1st inning, hit a single knocking in a run in the 5th inning, smashed
a two-run homer in the 7th inning and delivered a one-base hit scoring a run
in the 9th inning.  For the game Chester Springs out-hit Glenmoore 13-9.
 
The win was credited to Jack Billingham(5-2) who went 1 and 1/3 innings
allowing no runs. Billingham got help from Bo McLaughlin who was credited
with his 2nd save.  Rick Rhoden(5-3) took the loss.  He got hit pretty hard,
allowing 9 hits and 2 walks in 4 innings.  
 
DEVAULT AT GUTHRIESVILLE

Steve Rogers whiffed 10 batters at Hopewell Field where the Guthriesville
Golddiggers beat the Devault Dynamiters 6-4.
 
Rogers(7-4) gave Guthriesville a solid outing.  He was reached for 9 hits and
1 walk in 9 innings.  Despite losing, Devault out-hit Guthriesville 9-4.
 
Randy Lerch(2-9) was the loser.  Gary Scott was asked about the performance of
Rogers, 'He had his good stuff out there tonight.  The fans really get into
it when the strikeouts start mounting up - and that seems to give him even
more adrenalin.'

The Honey Brook Beekeepers edged the Elverson Squires 3-2 at The Nest.
 
Honey Brook had 2 runs cross the plate in the 7th inning. Elverson had a
chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.  
 
The winning pitcher was Ray Burris(5-6) who allowed 2 runs in 7 and 2/3
innings. Dave Campbell earned his 4th save.  Ed Halicki(4-6) was hit with the
loss.  He gave up 5 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.  
 
'Just one or two mistakes were all it took to beat us tonight' John Carney
said.  'We take these games one day at a time, but this one was hard to
take.'
 
KIMBERTON AT LIONVILLE

Reggie Smith launched 2 grand slams and Wayne Twitchell went the distance at
Foster Field where the Kimberton Firefighters beat the Lionville team 10-3.
 
Smith was in a groove all evening.  The Lionville fans hated to see him
approaching the batter's box.  He quieted the crowd by clouting a Grand Slam
in the 5th inning and launched a rocket-shot out of the park for a Grand Slam
homerun in the 8th inning.  Kimberton finished with 11 hits in the victory.
 
The winning pitcher was Twitchell(2-4) who allowed 3 runs for the game. Bruce
Kison(4-4) absorbed the loss.  He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 6
runs in 4 and 1/3 innings.
