The Guthriesville Golddiggers defeated the Devault Dynamiters 5-2 at Great 
Valley Stadium.
 
Guthriesville went ahead for good in the 2nd inning scoring one runner on 2
hits.  Devault had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
 
Larry Christenson(3-5) got the win allowing no runs in 5 and 1/3 innings.
Christenson got relief help from Bob Apodaca who gained credit for his 3rd
save.  The loss was charged to Randy Lerch(2-8).  He pitched 6 and 2/3
innings and surrendered 8 hits and 2 walks.
 
GLENMOORE AT CHESTER SPRINGS

Catcher Johnny Bench rocketed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Glenmoore
Stableboys topped the Chester Springs ballclub 9-3 at Historic Village 
Park.
 
Bench had a good day at the plate.  He clubbed a solo home run in the 6th
inning and lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the 7th
inning.  Glenmoore finished with 13 hits while Chester Springs had 9.
 
The winning pitcher was Floyd Bannister(3-6) who allowed 1 run in 6 and 2/3
innings. Phil Niekro(6-3) was tagged with the loss.  By surrending 9 runs in
8 innings his ERA jumped from 2.22 to 2.68.  
 
EAGLE AT MARSHALLTON

Don Sutton(5-4) and Paul Moskau(2-3) locked horns in a pitcher's duel with
Sutton and the Eagle Eagles coming out on top of the Marshallton Mad Hatters
3-0.
 
Sutton was very good in the win.  He allowed only 6 hits and 2 walks in 8 and
2/3 innings lowering his ERA to 3.53.  Marshallton was out-hit by Eagle, 9
hits to 6.  
 
Bill Atkinson preserved the game for Sutton, recording his his 10th.
 
HONEY BROOK AT ELVERSON

Right fielder Jay Johnstone left the yard at French Creek Park as the Honey
Brook Beekeepers beat the Elverson Squires 4-1.
 
Elverson never recovered after Honey Brook took the lead in the top of the 2nd
inning plating one baserunner on 2 base hits.  Honey Brook finished with 9
hits in the victory.  
 
The win was credited to Mark Lemongello(5-6) who went 5 and 1/3 innings
allowing 1 run. Santo Alcala gained credit for his 1st save.  Nino
Espinosa(3-2) ended up with the loss.

In an entertaining game at Kimberton Fairground the final score was the
Kimberton Firefighters 8, the Lionville club 5.
 
Kimberton came up with 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning when they had 3
base hits.  Joel Youngblood kicked off the action when he drew a walk.  Jerry
Turner followed and he ripped a base-knock.  Reggie Smith dug into the
batters box next, but he struck out.  After another out, Manny Trillo came up
and he drew a walk to load the bases.  Bill Madlock came to the plate and hit
a single.  George Mitterwald joined his teammates in the uprising and lined a
single.  Lionville tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.  
 
Eric Rasmussen(5-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 and 2/3 innings and
allowing 4 runs. Warren Brusstar recorded the save, his 2nd.  Randy
Jones(3-4) was the losing pitcher.  He was hit hard and gave up 8 hits and 2
walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.  
 
'Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals' said Jon Brams after the game.  'We
lost this game tonight because we didn't follow the instructions every Little
Leaguer hears every day.'
