First baseman Bob Watson hit 2 doubles as the Kimberton Firefighters outscored
the Guthriesville Golddiggers 4-2.
 
Kimberton took the lead for keeps in the 3rd inning plating one baserunner on
2 hits.  After an out was recorded, Frank Taveras lined a one-base hit.
Taveras took off for second and slid in with a stolen base.  Kimberton
continued their aggressive style with another stolen base.  Reggie Smith
followed next and he doubled.  George Hendrick dug into the batters box next,
but he struck out.  Kimberton banged out 11 hits on the afternoon.  
 
The victory was credited to John Candelaria(7-4) who went 8 innings, allowing
2 runs. Skip Lockwood recorded the save, his 7th.  Buzz Capra(2-5) was the
losing pitcher.  He was hit hard and gave up 7 hits and 3 walks in 4 and 1/3
innings.  
 
Kimberton continued their winning ways, with their streak now at 6 games and
counting.
 
GLENMOORE AT DEVAULT

Johnny Bench connected with a 'big fly' and had 4 RBI and John Urrea mowed
down 10 Devault batters at Great Valley Stadium as the Glenmoore Stableboys
beat the Devault Dynamiters 6-0.
 
Urrea(7-2) simply dominated Devault.  He allowed only 4 hits and no walks in 9
innings reducing his ERA from 2.61 to 2.26.  Glenmoore finished with 7 hits
in the victory.  
 
Tommy John(6-5) took the loss.  He pitched 6 and 2/3 innings giving up 6 hits
and 3 walks. 'He was really impressive tonight,' John said of his
counterpart.  'Our guys were just swinging at air.'
 
MARSHALLTON AT HONEY BROOK

The Marshallton Mad Hatters easily topped the Honey Brook Beekeepers; the
final score was 8-3.
 
Odell Jones(4-0) had a solid outing for Marshallton.  He went 5 and 2/3
innings allowing 6 hits and 1 walk.  For the game Marshallton out-hit Honey
Brook 14-10.  
 
Jones got relief help from Jackson Todd who gained credit for his 1st save.
Bob Knepper(2-5) was the loser.  He gave up 8 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings of
work.  
 
EAGLE AT ELVERSON

The Elverson Squires edged the Eagle Eagles in 10 innings at French Creek Park
5-4.
 
The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Elverson won it in the 10th
inning.  Lee Mazzilli drew a walk.  After an out was recorded, Steve Garvey
came to bat and stroked a single resulting in an exciting win for Elverson
and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans.  Despite losing,
Eagle out-hit Elverson 11-7.  
 
The victory went to Mike Garman(6-3) who went 2 and 1/3 innings, allowing no
runs. The losing pitcher was Bill Atkinson(4-5) in relief.

In a close game the Chester Springs team put 4 runs on the scoreboard in the
4th inning and got by the Lionville ballclub 6-4.
 
Jim Rooker(6-4) gave a fine effort for Chester Springs.  He surrendered 5 hits
and 4 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.  Chester Springs had 12 hits for the game
and Lionville had 7.  
 
Jack Billingham earned the save, his 2nd.  Burt Hooton(2-4) absorbed the loss.
He was not very effective, surrendering 5 runs in 3 and 1/3 innings.
