Mike Schmidt slammed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Kimberton Fairground as the
Elverson Squires beat the Kimberton Firefighters 4-3.
 
Schmidt provided much of the offense.  He slapped a one-base hit scoring a run
in the 1st inning, lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 4th inning and
smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the 6th inning.  Kimberton threatened
in the 9th but their rally came up short.  
 
The victory was credited to Ed Halicki(10-9) who went 8 innings, allowing 3
runs. Mike Garman recorded his 16th save.  The loss was charged to Fred
Norman(9-7).  
 
MARSHALLTON AT DEVAULT

Ken Griffey had 2 base hits as the Marshallton Mad Hatters outscored the
Devault Dynamiters in 10 innings 3-2.
 
Both teams had scored 2 runs after nine full innings.  Finally, Marshallton
prevailed in the 10th inning.  After two were out Griffey doubled, and an
error was also committed.  Ron Cey stepped up to the plate and he doubled.
Garry Templeton then stroked a base-hit.  Marshallton had 12 hits for the
night while Devault had 7.  
 
Rollie Fingers(1-7) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 and 1/3 innings.
Buddy Schultz earned his 6th save.  Jon Matlack(11-6) suffered the loss.  He
gave up 3 runs and 10 hits in 9 and 2/3 innings.

Tom Seaver pitched a complete game as the amazing Chester Springs club topped
the Honey Brook Beekeepers by a score of 13-5 at Historic Village Park.
 
Chester Springs took the lead off Mark Lemongello in the first inning scoring
3 runners on 3 hits.  Chester Springs totaled 16 hits on the night.
 
Seaver(12-6) was the winner allowing 5 runs for the game. Lemongello(7-10) was
the losing pitcher.  He was unable to control the Chester Springs offense and
allowed 5 hits and 2 walks in 2 innings.  
 
GLENMOORE AT EAGLE

Richie Hebner had 4 hits and 2 RBI as the Glenmoore Stableboys beat the Eagle
Eagles by a score of 8-4.
 
In the top of the 6th inning Glenmoore went on top for good when they scored 2
runs on 3 hits.  Glenmoore had 15 hits for the game and Eagle had 9.  
 
The winning pitcher was Mario Soto(1-1) who allowed 4 runs in 5 and 2/3
innings. Soto got relief help from John Urrea who gained credit for his 2nd
save.  Mike Krukow(3-4) was given the loss.  He was knocked around by
Glenmoore, allowing 10 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.

Derrel Thomas had 4 hits as the Guthriesville Golddiggers defeated the
Lionville ballclub 5-4 at Hopewell Field.
 
Guthriesville had 2 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 7th inning.
Thomas led off and got things going when he singled.  Keith Hernandez stepped
up next and he clubbed a two-run home run.  Lionville threatened in the 9th
but Guthriesville was able to put down the rally.  
 
Buzz Capra(4-7) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 and 1/3 innings and
allowing 4 runs. Clay Carroll recorded the save, his 5th.  Randy Jones(8-6)
was the loser.  He was touched for 9 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.

This one's on me. I never should have let Randy pitch to Hernandez. This season's Randy doesn't have near the stamina as last season's. I should know that by now. 3 straight losses - not the way I would have liked to go into Chester Springs. We can't blow this chance to make up ground. Anything less than a sweep would be a failure.

Squires by the count of 4-2.
 
Rasmussen(11-6) pitched well for Kimberton in their victory.  He allowed 6
hits and 2 walks in 9 innings and was touched for 2 homeruns.  The Elverson
offense proved no trouble in the 9th.  
 
Doug Rau(6-10) took the loss.  He pitched 6 and 2/3 innings and surrendered 7
hits and 1 walk.

Randy Lerch tossed a complete game as the Devault Dynamiters defeated the
Marshallton Mad Hatters by a score of 5-2 at Great Valley Stadium.
 
Devault took the lead for good in the bottom of the 4th inning plating one
baserunner.  Gary Carter hit a bases-empty home run.  Two outs later Tony
Perez got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim.  Devault had 9 hits
for the night.  
 
Lerch(6-14) got the victory, allowing 2 runs for the game. Eddie Solomon(4-6)
was hit with the loss.  He pitched 5 and 1/3 innings giving up 3 hits and 5
walks.

8 innings.  Charlie Hough pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 22nd save.
 
Dave Freisleben(2-10) was given the loss.  Chester Springs knocked him around
a bit, as he gave up 5 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings.

Dave Parker slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Eagle Eagles bested the
Glenmoore Stableboys 6-3 at Hickory Park.
 
Eagle took the lead off John Montefusco in the first inning scoring 3 runners
on 4 hits.  The key at-bat was by Parker who made the home-town crowd a happy
bunch when he doubled plating two runs.  Eagle had 14 hits for the night
while Glenmoore had 9.  
 
Pat Zachry(5-9) got the win allowing 3 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings. Dick Ruthven
got the save, his 6th.  Montefusco(6-4) was the losing pitcher.  He gave up 2
hits and no walks in 1/3 of an inning.

325 fans were treated to a fine game at Hopewell Field as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end.  The Guthriesville Golddiggers won by
the slimmest of margins, 9-8, over the Lionville Tiger-Cats.
 
Guthriesville tallied 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning with the help of
4 hits.  The big moment was provided by Enos Cabell who thrilled the crowd
when he clubbed a three-run home run.  Lionville threatened in the 9th but
their rally came up short.  
 
The win was credited to Jim Kaat(8-5) who went 7 innings allowing 6 runs. Kaat
was helped out by Clay Carroll who recorded his 4th save.  The losing pitcher
was Bruce Kison(6-7).  He was not very effective, surrendering 8 runs in 6
innings.
