Phil Niekro went the distance and first baseman Bobby Valentine blasted a
homerun and had 2 RBI at Historic Village Pk. as the dominant Chester Springs
team belted the Devault Dynamiters 13-1.
 
The game started off with Chester Springs taking the lead in the first scoring
a single run utilizing 2 base hits.  Chester Springs dominated offensively as
they scored in 6 different innings.  
 
Niekro(18-7) allowed 1 run on the game. Jackie Brown(3-9) ended up with the
loss.  His ERA ballooned from 3.98 to 4.26 as he allowed 7 runs in 5 and 1/3
innings.

In a two run game the Kimberton Firefighters got by the Eagle Eagles by the
score of 5-3.
 
Kimberton came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2
runs on 3 hits.  After an out was recorded, Jose Cruz keyed the rally when he
doubled.  After another out, Reggie Smith came to the plate and cracked a
two-run shot.  George Hendrick then ripped a one-base hit.  Kimberton
finished with 12 hits while Eagle ended up with 7.  
 
Jim Lonborg(9-6) got the win allowing 3 runs in 8 innings. Skip Lockwood got
the save, his 21st.  Pat Zachry(6-11) was the losing pitcher.  He gave up 4
runs and 10 hits in 8 and 1/3 innings.
 
GUTHRIESVILLE AT MARSHALLTON

The Marshallton Mad Hatters pitchers essentially took the day off at Four Dogs
Field as the Guthriesville Golddiggers offense erupted for 18 runs while Stan
Bahnsen(6-4), with relief help from Bob Apodaca, allowed Marshallton 6 runs.
 
Marshallton found themselves trailing quickly as the Guthriesville bats came
through in the first inning when they came up with 6 runs on 6 hits.  The
biggest moment was provided by Johnny Oates who deflated the crowd as he
delivered a one-base hit scoring two baserunners.  Guthriesville bats were
very productive in the 1st inning which saw them score 6 runs on 6 hits and
the 5th inning when they had 5 runs on 5 hits.  Guthriesville simply wore out
the Marshallton pitching staff, scoring in 6 different innings.  
 
Charlie Williams(3-7) suffered the loss.
 
GLENMOORE AT HONEY BROOK

Jerry Koosman shut down the Glenmoore batters on just 3 hits as the Honey
Brook Beekeepers defeated the Glenmoore Stableboys 5-0 at The Nest.
 
Koosman(13-8) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the
Glenmoore batters.  He allowed just 3 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings.  Honey
Brook rapped out 8 hits for the night.  
 
Bob Owchinko(6-9) was the loser. He allowed 5 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.
 
LIONVILLE AT ELVERSON

Chris Speier had 3 base hits and 3 RBI as the Lionville ballclub beat the
Elverson Squires by a score of 8-4.
 
Lionville had 3 runs cross the plate in the top of the 6th inning when they
had 3 base hits.  The crucial at-bat was provided by Speier who deflated the
spirits of the home town crowd when he doubled emptying the bases.  Lionville
ended up with 16 hits for the game while Elverson had 6.  
 
The win went to Craig Swan(5-11) who allowed 3 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings. Ed
Halicki(11-11) took the loss.  He allowed 5 runs and 7 hits in 5 and 2/3
innings.
