In a close game it was the Devault Dynamiters 6, the Chester Springs club 4 at
Historic Village Park.
 
Devault scored 2 runs in the decisive top of the 5th inning when they came up
with 4 base hits.  The crucial at-bat was provided by Phil Garner who
silenced the crowd when he clubbed a two-run home run.  Devault had 12 hits
for the night.  
 
Tommy John(13-6) went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs for the win. Bruce
Sutter got the save, his 29th.  Jerry Reuss(7-9) took the loss.  He was
knocked around by Devault, allowing 10 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.  
 
KIMBERTON AT EAGLE

Dan Larson went 7 and one third solid innings and designated hitter Bill
Madlock had 2 base hits as the Kimberton Firefighters bested the Eagle Eagles
2-0 at Hickory Park.
 
Larson(3-6) was solid in the win.  He gave up just 3 hits and no walks in 7
and 1/3 innings lowering his ERA from 4.61 to 4.17.  Kimberton finished with
7 hits while Eagle ended up with 4.  
 
Larson got relief help from Skip Lockwood who gained credit for his 20th save.
Don Sutton(9-12) was tagged with the loss.  He pitched 8 innings allowing 7
hits and 2 walks.
 
GUTHRIESVILLE AT MARSHALLTON

Garry Templeton collected 2 extra-base hits and had 2 RBI and J.R. Richard
came through with a solid 9 innings at Four Dogs Field where the Marshallton
Mad Hatters beat the Guthriesville Golddiggers 2-0.
 
Richard(13-11) simply dominated Guthriesville.  He surrendered only 4 hits and
1 walk in 9 innings.  Both teams' bats went to sleep after the 3rd inning
with no runs scored after that point.  
 
Buzz Capra(4-10) was hit with the loss.
 
GLENMOORE AT HONEY BROOK

In an entertaining game at The Nest the final score was the Honey Brook
Beekeepers 5, the Glenmoore Stableboys 2.
 
Glenmoore was unable to claim the lead after Honey Brook went ahead in the 5th
inning as they scored 2 runs on 2 base hits.  The critical plate appearance
was by Jay Johnstone who made the Honey Brook fans a happy lot when he laced
a base-hit which was good for two runs.  Glenmoore out-hit Honey Brook 10 to
5, but Honey Brook ended up with more runs.  
 
Mark Lemongello(10-10) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 7 and 1/3
innings. Lemongello got help from Dave Campbell who earned his 8th save.
Bill Bonham(11-9) was the losing pitcher.  
 
LIONVILLE AT ELVERSON

Mike Schmidt cracked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at French Creek Park as the
Elverson Squires beat the Lionville team 6-4.
 
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Schmidt.  He banged out a single in the 1st inning, cleared the
fences for a two-run home run in the 6th inning and popped a two-run clout
over the fence in the 8th inning.  Lionville was set down quietly in the 9th.
 
The win went to Dave Heaverlo(6-1) who allowed 1 run in 4 innings. Randy
Jones(9-8) absorbed the loss.  Schmidt said, 'It was just all timing. I had
pretty good rhythm at the plate tonight.  You've got to take advantage of
mistakes when you can.  A couple pitches were definitely up a little bit -
right in my zone.'
