Eagle ended up with 15 hits for the game while Honey Brook had 10. Rick Reuschel(9-7) picked up the victory, allowing 5 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings. Reuschel was helped out by Mike Marshall who recorded his 2nd save. Ray Burris(6-14) was the loser. He was unable to control the Eagle offense and allowed 10 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings. The Glenmoore Stableboys halted a 5 game slide and won by the slimmest of margins, 4-3. Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings. Glenmoore won it in the 10th inning. Bake McBride doubled. After an out was recorded, Willie Montanez stepped up to the plate and he ripped a one-base hit making Glenmoore the winners and sending the 1,067 fans home happy. Glenmoore out-hit Chester Springs for the game, 12-9. Pedro Borbon(1-0) allowed no runs in 5 innings, and picked up the victory. Dale Murray(0-5) was the losing pitcher in relief. He gave up 4 hits and 1 walk in 1 inning. Manny Trillo came to the plate and laced a base-hit. Dale Murphy then ripped a single. Frank Taveras followed next and he drew a walk to load the bases. Craig Robinson was next to bat, but he was a strikeout victim. Jerry Mumphrey followed, but he was set down on strikes. A wild affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times. The win was credited to Skip Lockwood(2-2) who went 2 innings allowing no runs. The losing pitcher was Ken Forsch(3-8) in relief. Clarey had a big day against Lionville. He cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 2nd inning and blasted a two-run home run in the 4th inning. Lionville had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. Tommy John(6-7) went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs for the win. John got help from Bruce Sutter who earned his 17th save. Steve Carlton(10-4) took the loss. He allowed 3 homeruns in 7 and 1/3 innings of work. 'I didn't have my best stuff but sometimes you just get lucky,' John said, 'this was one of those times.'

We loaded 'em up for Eddie K. at the end but he couldn't deliver. I gotta give a pass to him, though - he's been so clutch all season. In fact, he should have been on the field the other night with the stars in Eagle. There's something fishy about that Doug Clarey. When he's up against a southpaw, the ball evidently looks the size of a beach ball. Lefty was P/Oed as hell when I told him to put Clarey on after those 2 homers he hit. But I know it was the right move. Is Clarey an alien or a magician or what?

I had a blast - and came out a winner! Though I must say it was strange sitting in the home dugout at Hickory. George Foster [named MVP] sure thrilled his home town fans with a great performance. For me the highlight was the suicide squeeze Chris Speier laid down in that big 7th inning - sheer perfection! Solid pitching by my Ti-Cats guys - Jones and Reed for my Fan Picks and Hooton for John Young's squad. That's a tough role John took on. I felt a little bad for Sutton serving up those balls Foster and Schmidt clobbered in the 4th - epic blasts! Kudos to Steve Shilling and his umpiring crew for doing a nice job and keeping things light.
