April 19, 1976 Recaps


MARSHALLTON AT DEVAULT

Jon Matlack reeled off a total of 12 strikeouts as the Devault Dynamiters (4-2)
defeated the Marshallton Mad Hatters (3-4) 3-2 at Great Valley
Stadium.
 
Matlack(2-0) had a solid outing for Devault.  He went 8 innings and surrended
up 8 hits and no walks.  Marshallton tried unsuccessfully to come back in the
9th.  
 
Matlack got relief help from Bruce Sutter who gained credit for his 2nd save.
Gary Nolan(0-1) ended up with the loss.  John Young was upset after the game.
'I don't like to complain but did you see that umpires strike zone?', he
said.  'Maybe they ought to start calling the strike zone the way it's
printed in the rule book.'
 
EAGLE AT GUTHRIESVILLE

George Foster had 4 hits at Hopewell Field where the Eagle Eagles (3-4) beat the
Guthriesville Golddiggers (2-5) 7-6.
 
In the 7th inning Eagle scored 3 runs with the help of 4 hits.  The crucial
at-bat was provided by Felix Millan who silenced the stadium when he doubled
scoring two baserunners.  Guthriesville made it exciting in the 9th, but they
were unable to push the needed runs across.  
 
Chip Lang(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 and 2/3 innings and
allowing no runs. Randy Moffitt recorded the save, his 3rd.  Bob Apodaca(0-1)
was charged with the loss in relief.  He allowed 5 hits and no walks in 3 and
2/3 innings.  
 
Gary Scott was in a contemplative mood after the tough loss, 'It is really
hard to lose this kind of a game.  It may seem weird to some, but it is
easier to take the occasional blow-out loss.  It is the ones that just barely
get away that hurt so much - like this one!'
 
LIONVILLE AT GLENMOORE

Jerry Morales blasted 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Randy Jones tossed a
complete game as the Lionville (6-0) team defeated the Glenmoore Stableboys (2-4) by the
score of 7-3 at Bentley Stadium.
 
Morales enjoyed a big day at the plate. He lofted a three-run bomb in the 4th
inning and clubbed a two-run home run in the 6th inning.  Lionville finished
with 9 hits in the victory.  
 
Jones(2-0) finished the game allowing 3 runs in the victory. John
Montefusco(0-2) suffered the loss.  No one has been able to stop Lionville
lately as they lengthened their winning streak to 6 games.
