April 12, 1976 Recaps



GUTHRIESVILLE AT EAGLE

Right fielder Dave Parker had 2 base hits as the Eagle Eagles defeated the
Guthriesville Golddiggers by a score of 3-0 at Hickory Park.
 
Eagle jumped on top to stay in the bottom of the 5th inning plating an
isolated run utilizing 3 base hits.  After two were out Bud Harrelson slapped
a single.  Harrelson was safe at second on a stolen base.  Pete Rose then
doubled.  Bruce Boisclair was up next and he ripped a base-knock.
Guthriesville was out-hit by Eagle, 11 hits to 5.  
 
The win went to Don Sutton(1-0) who allowed no runs in 8 innings. Randy
Moffitt was credited with his 1st save.  Steve Rogers(0-1) was the losing
pitcher.  He was touched for 10 hits and 2 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings.  
 
 
HONEY BROOK AT KIMBERTON

Bob Watson had 2 base hits as the Kimberton Firefighters defeated the Honey
Brook Beekeepers by the score of 3-1 at Kimberton Fairground.
 
Jim Lonborg(1-0) pitched a solid game.  He was stingy on the mound, allowing
just 4 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.  Honey Brook threatened in the 9th but
Kimberton was able to put down the rally.  
 
Lonborg got help from Skip Lockwood who earned his 1st save.  Ray Burris(0-1)
ended up with the loss.  Despite losing Chris McLaughlin was optimistic after
the game.  'We'll get over this one.  Sometimes the breaks fall your way,
sometimes they don't.  Any one of a dozen little things go different, and we
come out on top.'

Rick Monday had 2 base hits as the Chester Springs ballclub defeated the
Elverson Squires 5-4 at Historic Village Pk.
 
The game was decided in the bottom of the 8th inning.  After an out was
recorded, Larry Bowa reached on an error.  Monday stepped into the batter's
box and he lined a single.  Dave Winfield then would ground out.  Gary
Thomasson followed and he was walked intentionally.  Elverson threatened in
the 9th but their rally came up short.  
 
The victory was credited to Joe Niekro(1-0) who went 1 and 1/3 innings,
allowing no runs. Charlie Hough recorded his 1st save.  Jim Barr(0-1) was hit
with the loss.  
 
 
DEVAULT AT MARSHALLTON

Homeruns- D.Kingman-2(2nd)
 
Dave Kingman ripped 2 homeruns at Four Dogs Field as the Devault Dynamiters
beat the Marshallton Mad Hatters by the count of 2-1.
 
Kingman had a big day against Marshallton.  He blasted a solo shot in the 1st
inning, stroked a one-base hit in the 5th inning and cracked a solo homerun
in the 8th inning.  Bruce Sutter pitched a perfect ninth and was credited
with his 1st save.  
 
The winning pitcher was Jon Matlack(1-0) who allowed 1 run in 8 innings. J.R.
Richard(0-1) was charged with the loss.  He pitched 8 and 2/3 innings giving
up 6 hits and 6 walks.
 
 
GLENMOORE AT LIONVILLE

Joe Morgan connected with a 'big fly' and had 3 RBI and Steve Carlton struck
out 14 batters at Foster Field where the Lionville team beat the Glenmoore
Stableboys 7-0.
 
Carlton(1-0) escaped virtually unscathed against the Glenmoore hitters.  He
didn't give up much, just 5 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings.  Lionville rapped
out 12 hits for the afternoon.  
 
John Montefusco(0-1) absorbed the loss.  He was unable to control the
Lionville offense and allowed 12 hits and 4 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.
 
Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of Carlton - except Glenmoore. Barry
Bentley lamented, 'He just was 'on' this afternoon.  He was keeping our guys
off balance all game.  A fine game by a good strikeout pitcher - makes it a
fun game for the hometown fans - unfortunately we were the visitors!'
