8/14/77: Lionville Routs Chester Springs, 8-1, as Luzinkski, Carlton Star

Tiger-Cats manager Jon Brams:

Lefty said he was ready to go again. It didn't look that way in the 1st but he was right. He fanned 9, and he got stronger late in the game. We had hits up and down the lineup today. The drama was Bull having two shots at a cycle. In the 7th Murray hung one but Bull didn't get all of it in and it ended up being another base hit. Then in the 8th he was called out looking on a bad call, after Clines gave him another shot with a 2-out, 2-run single. The fans knew it was a bad call. But in any case it was a fun afternoon and we climb back into 4th place because, as we would find out later, Devault lost a 12th inning lead and lost to Glenmoore. That win by Glenmoore was their 8th straight and cuts Ghoulach's team's lead to under 10 games for the first time in awhile. Maybe Bentley's boys are going to make this interesting.

Rick Rhoden had a complete game as the red-hot Glenmoore Stableboys defeated
the Devault Dynamiters by a score of 8-3 at Bentley Stadium.
 
It was a good day for Glenmoore thanks to Bake McBride.  He belted a three-run
homer in the 6th inning and doubled which brought home a run in the 7th
inning.  Glenmoore managed 12 hits in their victory.  
 
Rhoden(8-9) lasted until the end allowing 3 runs for the win. Butch
Metzger(6-4) suffered the loss in relief.  He gave up 6 runs and 7 hits in 1
inning.  
 
Glenmoore extended their winning streak to 7 games.
 
KIMBERTON AT GUTHRIESVILLE

Grant Jackson came through with a solid 5 innings and second baseman Davey
Lopes left the yard and had 4 RBI as the Guthriesville Golddiggers defeated
the Kimberton Firefighters by the score of 10-7 at Hopewell Field.
 
Kimberton never recovered after Guthriesville took the lead in the bottom of
the 6th inning when they tallied 2 runs on 3 hits.  The key offensive moment
was provided by Lou Brock who brought a roar from the partisan Hopewell Field
fans when he slapped a single scoring two baserunners.  Guthriesville had 11
hits for the afternoon.  
 
The victory went to Jackson(6-4) who went 5 innings, allowing no runs. Jim
Lonborg(7-6) was the loser.  His ERA ballooned from 4.41 to 4.85 as he
allowed 8 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.

Jay Johnstone jacked one out of the ballyard and had 3 RBI as the Honey Brook

Mark Lemongello(8-10) labored throughout the game but hung around to record a
victory.  He gave up 9 hits and 1 walk in 5 and 2/3 innings and surrendered 2
'round-trippers'.  Eagle went down without a fight in the 9th.  
 
Pete Falcone gained credit for his 2nd save.  Rick Reuschel(9-8) was hit with
the loss.  He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 14 hits and 4
walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.

Gene Richards had 4 hits and 2 RBI as the Marshallton Mad Hatters topped the
Elverson Squires by a score of 5-3 at French Creek Park.
 
In the 4th inning Marshallton scored 3 runs when they came up with 4 base
hits.  They would be enough to earn the win.  Elverson tried unsuccessfully
to come back in the 9th.  
 
Charlie Williams(3-5) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 and 1/3 innings
and allowing 2 runs. Williams got help from Rollie Fingers who was credited
with his 20th save.  Jim Barr(5-14) was the losing pitcher.  He was unable to
control the Marshallton offense and allowed 9 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings.
 
'It was a tough one to lose' said John Carney 'We'll get them next time out.'

In a game for the baseball purist, Jim Rooker(10-6) and Craig Swan(4-10)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, and the powerful Chester Springs ballclub
finally emerged victorious over Lionville team, 2-1.
 
Rooker pitched well for Chester Springs in their victory.  He went 6 and 2/3
innings surrendering 4 hits and 1 walk dropping his ERA from 4.39 to 4.18.
Chester Springs had a total of 7 hits for the game.  
 
Charlie Hough recorded the save, his 23rd.
